Three of the biggest clowns in congress are in competitive races for their seats this fall. Michelle Bachman, Joe Walsh, and Steve King all stand a solid shot of getting booted from the house, and it goes without saying that we have real opportunity to rid the house of representatives of some of the ignorance, bile and fanaticism that have plagued in the last couple of years.

Often, clowns like this are in completely safe districts, but that ain’t the case here – the window is open!

Follow me over the jump to an update on where these races stand.

Michele Bachmann:

A new poll just out in Minnesota’s sixth district shows Bachmann with just a two point lead, 46-44, over Jim Graves. This seat has never looked particularly attainable, but with Bachmann’s embarrassing showing during the presidential primaries, and the lack of third party challengers which have previously hurt Democratic chances, this race is now a dogfight.

Typical Michele Bachmann quote:

“I find it interesting that it was back in the 1970s that the swine flu broke out under another, then under another Democrat president, Jimmy Carter. I'm not blaming this on President Obama, I just think it's an interesting coincidence.”

Joe Walsh:

Illinois’ favorite deadbeat dad loudmouth trails classy veteran Tammy Duckworth by 9 points as of the most recent polling, which is from almost a month ago. This poll may overstate Duckworth’s lead a bit, so there shouldn’t be any complacency here – this race may go right down to the wire.

Typical Joe Walsh quote:

“Look what this president’s doing. He was running around a month and a half ago basically saying, ‘free contraceptives for everybody.’ Free contraceptives. What’s he been doing now the past couple weeks? Basically free college education. Student debt? Don’t worry about it. Don’t worry about it, you’ll pick it up.”

Steve King:

Resident racist Steve King is locked in a tight battle in Iowa's 4th district with Christie Vilsack. There hasn’t been a lot of polling of this contest, but King’s district, which previously was safely Republican, was combined to make one that only leans slightly Republican, and the Democrats are fielding a serious candidate with name recognition. Polling from earlier this year had King up 6 points.

Typical Steve King quote:

“if [Obama] is elected president, then the, the radical Islamists, the, the al-Qaida, and the radical Islamists and their supporters, will be dancing in the streets in greater numbers than they did on September 11”.

Again, if there’s anything you can do to oust these folks, do it – it would sure be sweet to have Obama dealing with a congress that contained none of these buffoons.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
