Today I decided to teach my 13 year old son a lesson in civics so we donned our red t-shirts and headed out to the Chicago Teachers Union rally to lend our support. He's already well versed on the importance of unions and the reasons his teachers are striking. What I wanted him to learn today is the importance of solidarity. What it feels like to be a part of something bigger.
We were lucky to find an elevated spot along the marching route and it was a sight to behold. Thousands upon thousands of teachers, support staff and parents marching in solidarity. I turned to him and said, "this is what a strike looks like." More pics below the fold.
