Republicans claim that the way to fix the economy is to cut taxes on the rich "job creators." But this is like getting dessert before having to eat your vegetables. The rich can just pocket the big tax windfall and politely pass on actually hiring anybody.
Wouldn't you think that a tough, savvy, results-oriented business manager—like, say, Mitt Rmoney—would say "Vegetables first, then dessert"?
Well, when we look at Obama's jobs proposal, what do we find? The interesting answer after the jump…
The President proposes to give businesses tax incentives for actually, you know, creating jobs. Specifically, he would cut payroll taxes to zero for firms that increase their payroll by adding new workers or increasing the wages of their current workers. He would also cut in half the taxes paid by businesses on their first $5 million in payroll, targeting the benefit to the 98 percent of firms that have payroll below this threshold.
In other words, "No dessert unless you eat your vegetables."
Which proposal makes more sense: giving rich folks a big gift and saying "I hope you might consider hiring somebody", or giving actual employers an incentive to actually employ people?
And people criticize Obama because he's never run a business? Sheesh.
