I got asked again today - Are you better off today than you were four years ago? When I got home I decided to google the full text of that President Ronald Wilson Reagan quote.

“Are you better off now than you were four years ago?
Is it easier for you to go and buy things in the stores than it was four years ago?
Is there more or less unemployment in the country than there was four years ago?
Is America as respected throughout the world as it was?
Do you feel that our security is as safe, that we’re as strong as we were four years ago?

And if you answer all of those questions ‘yes’, why then, I think your choice is very obvious as to whom you will vote for. If you don’t agree, if you don’t think that this course that we’ve been on for the last four years is what you would like to see us follow for the next four, then I could suggest another choice that you have.”

the reason they can't finish the quote this year:
Is America as respected throughout the world as it was?
My answer would be more than the last 8 under Bush & the Republicans
Do you feel that our security is as safe, that we’re as strong as we were four years ago?
My answer would be - I sure do as Bin Laden and other high ranking terrorists have been killed or apprehended.  9/11 happened (with much prior warning) under a Republican

Next time you are peppered with the 'are you better off than you were 4 years ago' question, make them finish the whole quote.  This is not a question, it is a 5 part question.  Take it to them 1 through 5.  Have fun with it.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
