I've been encouraged to do diaries more frequently, both to help get the word out about my art, but also to remind people of what we fight for and what this election is about.
I live below the poverty line. I'm disabled, my wife is disabled, and our live-in care provider isn't exactly able-bodied herself. With my SSD and her checks for taking care of mr, we barely get by. Still, we do the best we can.
To get us out of poverty, I'm trying to start a career in comics. I recently launched a Kickstarter project to fund production of DARK ZOEY #1, which I will use as a submission to Image, IDW, Darkhorse, etc. EVERYONE who pledges will get a digital copy of the finished comic, even the $1 backers. Print copies will go to those who pledge $5 or more.
I hit my initial goal in 5 days, and my first stretch goal in 9. I've recently put up a new stretch goal:
If I can reach $3000, I'll make #1 a double issue. That's issues #1 and #2 together in one book. 36 pages of story. I'm currently just shy of $2300, and have 17 days to go.
I've also started an IndieGoGo fundraiser for art supplies and household goods. This is about helping me become self-sufficient, helping me live a better life, and helping me to be able to provide more or my family. This is, bluntly, about changing my world and helping me get out of poverty on my own skills and talents.
I have the successful Kickstarter campaign up above for the comic book I'm trying to make, but those funds are strictly for paying the production costs and shipping of rewards. This is a general plea to improve my life and my art.
Last night, I drew and designed the cover of the comic:
I also designed that logo you see in the top left as my label's logo:
I've been up all night working on those. Today I have a photo shoot with some friends to create stock photos for me to use in the creation of my comic. As soon as I get done, I'll begin drawing the book, and likely work through the night again.
I'm doing everything I can to dig my way out.
Thank you for reading this, and thank you for considering pledging to my fundraisers.
