The problem with Mitt Romney is that he just keeps telling the truth, time and time again. And by "the truth," I don't mean the truth about what his plans would do to the middle class, or what his plans actually consist of, or the job that President Obama has done to move our country forward.
No, when I say "the truth," what I really mean is that Romney continually tells us what he actually thinks.
He does actually think that the President sympathizes with the Libyans who killed innocent Americans in Benghazi. He does actually think that criticism of his tenure at Bain Capital is tantamount to attacking the very nature of capitalism itself. He does think that paying taxes is a form of "charity." He does actually think all of those things.
And now, we know what Mitt Romney really thinks about us.
Those darned hidden cameras continually give Romney a hard time. Earlier today, it came out that Romney thinks that it would be easier to win the general election if he were a Latino. That is offensive in and of itself, but now it's come out what Mitt Romney really thinks of us. And by "us," I don't just mean the bloggers at DailyKos or even the percentage of Americans who identify as liberals. By "us," I mean supporters of President Obama.
"There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government..."
It's the notion that all supporters of President Obama are "dependent upon government" that bothers me the most. It's the most insulting way for conservatives to dismiss my or anyone else's support for the President, that we're doing it because we're selfish people who want to continue sucking on the government teat. Of course, when billionaires and corporations spend millions of dollars supporting Romney's candidacy, it's for totally selfless reasons.
"...who believe that they are victims..."
I guess that Romney is referring to the fact that President Obama is supported by female, gay, and minority voters, who, in his mind, continually victimize themselves. I mean, how dare women expect equal pay for equal work! How dare minorities ask for a hand up after centuries of discrimination! How dare the LGBT community ask for legal recognition after their behavior has been illegal for so many centuries!
"...who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them..."
This continues the insulting nature of what Romney began above--Obama voters want to be coddled by the government, naturally. And here's where his vision of America is fundamentally flawed--we don't want the government to care for us, we want the government to care ABOUT us.
"...who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them..."
I can honestly say that he's right here. Yes, I consider "food" to be an entitlement. Yes, I consider "health care" to be an entitlement. Yes, I consider myself to be entitled to not going to bed hungry and to not dying due to a preventable illness.
"...and they will vote for this president no matter what...these are people who pay no income tax."
So I'm guessing that he's including himself in this group of people if "people who pay no income tax" are voting for President Obama.
"...my job is is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."
