As Romney rails against the poor and the "entitled", it bears mentioning that he considers himself a devoutly religious man. Now, while his chosen drink is Mormonism, they are still believers in the bible and the teachings of Christ.
But lets examine exactly WHAT is taught about rich men and charity.
Here is the full passage that everyone refers to when describing the rich and Christianity. It's pretty darn clear if you ask me:
16 Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”
17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.” 18 “Which ones?” he inquired.
Jesus replied, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, 19 honor your father and mother,’[c] and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’[d]”
20 “All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?”
21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.
23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven.
24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”
Now, I'm not here to talk religion. In fact, while I believe Christ was a man with a good message, I don't know if I can resolve that he was the son of God anymore than any of us are the son or daughters of whatever created us.
But if anyone on the right wants this debate it's always been pretty solidly here. We as democrats are not only closer to the teachings of Christ but far more charitable and giving than a majority of these self-centered, full-of-themselves millionaires who have the gall to deride anyone who might need any kind of federal assistance, whether it be due to old age, existing social programs (that we paid into), or disability among ohter things.
Our message: We are all in this together. Their message: Fuck you and die if you can't afford to live.
Not very Christian, Mormon or anything else for that matter. Just pretty sad and unecessarily callous in my opinion.
