This seems particularly appropriate to note given Mitt's apparent views on those that collect social services and/or welfare assistance. In this video Lenore Romney is giving an interview in support of her husband (Mitt's dad) George Romney's bid for the governorship of Michigan.
At 00:43s into the video there's a moment that touches on something that must by now be quite a familiar sentiment to the Romneys. The interviewer puts forth the proposition that many people feel that "since he is a man of considerable means, many people feel that he doesn't care for the people." What is her response? Well part of it is to relate this little tidbit of information: Mitt's dad George collected welfare himself when he first came to the US from Mexico.
From 0:43-1:02:
Interviewer: "You mention 'the people'. There are those who say that since he's a man of considerable means he really doesn't care about people."
Mitt's Mother: "Well, you know, we've only owned our home for the last four years. He was a refugee from Mexico. He was on relief -- welfare relief -- for the first years of his life. [...] His family were poor."
Fascinating.
