If there was ever any doubt what Mitt Romney's strategy is for winning the White House, all one has to do is look at his schedule to see where his priorities are. With only seven weeks remaining before the election, is Mitt Romney out campaigning for votes? No, he's busy attending more private fundraisers trying to amass a larger war chest. Romney emerged the victor of the Republican primaries by outspending his opponents and drowning them in negative campaign ads. Clearly he believes that the same strategy will work in his lust to win the presidential election on November 6 despite the fact that this tactic has done very little to convince most Americans that President Obama is the inept commander in chief that Romney thinks he is. In fact, recent events show that people just aren't buying the argument. As Real Clear Politics reports:
Entrenched in the most conservative state in the nation before landing deep in the heart of Texas, the entirety of Romney’s day will have been spent hundreds of miles from the nearest swing state. What’s more, he is slated to appear in public only via a satellite feed for an interview on the Fox News Channel.
Romney’s light public schedule in the heart of the campaign’s final sprint has led some GOP donors to grumble that he should be paying less attention to them at this point and spending more time winning over voters who will decide the election at the ballot box.
Why get out and campaign in front of potential voters, when you can let money to your campaigning for you? It's more fundraisers for Romney, where he will speak privately to donors. Will there be a hidden camera this time? More money, specifically more of other people's money is all Romney needs. Isn't that why he was so successful as a venture capitalist? All those leveraged buy-outs where Romney borrowed heavily against the assets of the businesses he acquired, loading them down with debt and setting them on the road to bankruptcy, taught Romney a valuable lesson. Why use his own money when he can use other people's money to get what he wants? I wonder how much of his own money Romney has invested in his campaign this time? If I remember correctly, he blew threw millions of his own fortune in 2008. But this time?
It doesn't take a political genius to figure out what Romney plans to do with all these donations. He will soon be carpet-bombing the airwaves with negative ads against President Obama because despite all the negative news being reported about him, Romney must believe that showing negative commercials about President Obama in between the news people watch about Romney is going to sway voters in Romney's direction.
“There’s not really a campaign here,” said one Republican with extensive ties to the party’s fundraising community. “He’s getting ready for the debates, and he’s out fundraising. You’ve got enough money!”
Over the last seven days, Romney’s public events have included just two rallies: one with supporters at a campaign office in Florida, and a speech to the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in California.
No, Romney doesn't have enough money. If he did he wouldn't be attending even more fundraisers. In Romney's world you don't work for what you want, you buy it and to do that you can never have enough funds to guarantee the outcome you want.
Of the two public appearances Romney made in the last week, one of them was in solid blue California? How is that going to help him sway votes in the swing states?
During the same time frame, he has attended seven private fundraisers and had two days with no events scheduled at all, choosing instead to prepare for the three upcoming debates with President Obama and conducting one TV interview.
In all, Romney has spent only nine of the 19 days since the conclusion of the Republican National Convention campaigning in battleground states.
Once Romney amasses even more funds for his war chest, what will he do with all that money? Don't say I didn't tell you so.
Strategists from both campaigns believe that voter fatigue with an expected swing-state advertising barrage will kick into a higher gear at some point in the campaign’s homestretch, resulting in a diminished return on their investments.
Since those upcoming ad buys probably won't do much to help Romney get elected, hopefully he'll be making those ad buys in areas where the influx of cash can help local economies.
Of course, if Romney can schedule a rally around a fundraiser, it looks like he's at least willing to do that. According to a recent announcement, on Thursday Romney will hold a Rally in Sarasota.

Romney was already scheduled to attend a fundraiser
at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, said Sarasota County Republican Party Chairman Joe Gruters.
