As a public service for the Romney-Ryan press pool, I thought I would present below the simple question to ask Mr. Romney about fixing what the candidate framed as the 47% problem plaguing our nation.
(See below)
The famous 47% percent are roughly comprised as follows:
24% - workers paying payroll (& other) taxes, but no income taxes due to CTC* and EITC*
7% - unemployed
8% - elderly people
6% - non-elderly with incomes below $20K
2% - other
---
47% - Total
* CTC = Child Tax Credit, EITC = Earned Income Tax Credit
The question:
What changes, Mr. Romney, would you propose to the tax code to get all these people paying taxes again?
or, perhaps:
How, Mr. Romney, would you change the tax code to turn all these tragically dependent citizens back into honest citizens?
Now I realize that this would be doing Mr. Romney a favor. You would be helping him further sharpen his ideological differences vs. President Obama.
You would be helping him fulfill his campaign promise from the other day to be more transparent and detailed about his proposals - in particular his deficit reduction proposal that seems to be the cornerstone of his and Ryan's candidacy.
You might be accused of media bias for helping out Mr. Romney this way.
But, please, be strong and give Mr. Romney this chance to more eloquently articulate his critique of the 47%, and more eloquently explain how we should help them help themselves by (presumably) eradicating their tax credits.
Thanks in advance!
