Even as Mitt Romney's presidential campaign implodes, I see GOP talking heads continue to repeat this again and again: With this President's record this is an election that should be a slam dunk for us.
"This President." They say it with so much disdain and disbelief. So dismissive and so condescending. I don't think many of them have ever gotten over a person of color being elected President of the United States of America.
On top of that, I guess it's extremely hard to believe that President Obama could still be competitive and actually leading in the polls after every lie, attack and insult they've slammed and slandered him with over the past few years while trying to frame him as an illegitimate President...all the while obstructing nearly everything he's tried to accomplish.
Few things are worse than conspiring and working to make someone fail, then blaming him or her for that failure. But that's exactly what the Republicans are doing and continue to pin their hopes on. They want our economy to fail so they can blame President Obama in hopes of regaining the White House. How un-American is that?
When I hear them say "This President," I hear echoes of all the negative labels they've tried to pin on President Obama while attempting to brand him as the other: He wasn't born in America. He's a Muslim. He's a socialist. He a terrorist sympathizer. He's the food stamp President. He hates white people. Yada, yada, yada...
More importantly, in spite of the GOP obstructionist President Obama has had a very successful record. I'm curious what record his detractors are looking at? His Administration has enjoyed literally dozens of successes including averting a depression, passing the historic healthcare law, taking Bin Laden out, ensuring equal pay for working women, ending Don't Ask, Don't Tell and ending the war in Iraq. So, they're discrediting his record? I say bring it on.
Not sure how or why they seriously believe any GOP candidate should be a shoo-in given the mess they left after the Bush/Cheney years. It appears many Republicans aren't reasonable people, but any reasonable person shouldn't expect anyone to fix an economy that took eight years to break.
I guess they're overly confident in their Southern Strategy-based, over-the-top smear and fear tactics. I look forward to November 6 when the results are in and "This President," our President is re-elected.
