My wife and I just got our tickets to see President Obama speak in Milwaukee. We got to the line about half an hour before they were going to start handing out tickets and it was already three flights of stairs long. By the time they started handing tickets out the line was down the block.
The tickets got to the office late, but it's always nice to wait in line with a bunch of motivated liberals (even when you have a 15 month old with you). Every time I'm among a sort-a-random assembly of Democrats, no matter what state, I can't help but notice the diversity in the group. It especially stands in contrast to the conservative events I've had the misfortune of attending, like the Americans for Prosperity event I filmed for the WisDems.
In 2008, before the primary in AZ I had not decided between Obama and Clinton (I was a Richardson supporter but he was out by then) my wife got us tickets to hear Michelle Obama speak and she almost won my vote. She almost won it even though in her speech it was clear that her husband didn't fully align with my views on many issues. I then read the "Audacity of Hope" and that's when I knew who I would support. Not b/c of his stated positions, but b/c of his stated reasoning/logic and approach to issues.
Now that the President is up 14 in WI I wouldn't be surprised (or begrudge them) if they decided to cancel the event to focus on the closer swing states. Don't get me wrong, I would be disappointed, but he needs to win for the sake of my family and the country as a whole. I know there is little chance of this but I would love the chance to thank him in person for all that he's done for us, for his thoughtfulness and for all the BS he puts up with while he works. And you know, if he kissed my baby that would be pretty cool too.
