John Hagee, whose ministries are heard in 99 million homes weekly, has launched what he calls the 40 Days of Prayer. It is a call to conservatives across the country to form prayer groups that will be charged with praying to the Lord to cleanse our country of Barack Obama. The daily prayers are to begin next week, on September 28.
We are talking about an large, organized effort aimed at turning President Obama out of office, based on the power of prayer influencing God to intervene in a presidential election.
On the Hagee Ministries website they offer a downloadable "40 Days of Prayer Proclamation for America", which I downloaded. In this file they conveniently provide a dozen or so suggested prayers for each prayer group to recite. This is a sample:
O Lord our God, You have promised to raise up righteous leaders into high places and to remove those who have displayed unrighteous authority. We earnestly pray that You will once again exalt the upright and expose the deeds of the ungodly. (Proverbs 14:33-35)
I like this one too:
We pledge to vote the Bible in selecting those that will govern our country. (Deuteronomy 16:18-20)
I learned of this originally from a comment on Redstate acknowledging a flurry of emails over the past week with invitations to 40 Days prayer groups. This is real - millions of people may become involved in this. Praying daily, for almost 6 weeks straight, for Mitt Romney to defeat Barack Obama.
Will this work? I guess we'll see starting next Friday. If the shit hits the fan in the Obama campaign, I guess we'll know where God stands. OTOH, if Obama wins, despite all that praying going on, it is clear as day that He is on OUR side (or, of course, that He doesn't exist at all). Lots riding on the outcome of this election now!
I guess there's one more possibility. God could decide to answer their prayers, but find that He's not powerful enough to help Romney win. That would be a miracle beyond His capacity.
By the way, something else begins on September 28. Early voting begins in the first swing state (Iowa)!
