That is, if you're registered in the Mount Rushmore State or enjoy Famous Potatoes. Green Mountain Boys and Girls, you'll have to wait 'til tomorrow.
That's right, early voting is on!
Tarheels, Hoosiers, Bluegrassers and others have already begun banking their votes via absentee ballots, but today is the first day Americans can actually stand in line, bend over a tray and physically demonstrate their preference for representation.
That voting has begun just at the point where the calm, rational president is pulling away in the polls from the multifaced, bitter elitist challenging him is certainly a delicious spoon of gravy. The meat is this:
Victory begins today.
Every vote banked is another step to a second Obama term, a Democratic House and a more powerful Democratic Senate. Every early voter is another campaign volunteer freed up to canvass, drive, phone and poll-watch on election day.
Iraqis proudly displayed their ink-stained index fingers after voting in the first post-Saddam elections. I offer no ink, but promise you this: when you vote, be it early or on Nov. 6, you, too, will be proudly holding up a finger to the doubters, the cynics and especially the pathologically entitled who believe the country is by rights theirs and the rest of us are servants who should know our places.
The choice of finger is yours.
