I have a corporation. I filed an extension for both corporate and personal taxes this year. I paid what was due, but the big difference between myself and Romney is that I am not running for President.
Here's the issue. Romney KNEW his taxes were a campaign liability BEFORE he filed his extension. He could have quashed this entire debate by telling his accountant to cut back on many of his write-offs and, essentially, pay a higher tax rate.
But, despite all the evidence to the contrary, it's clear from this tax return that Romney wouldn't pay one cent more in taxes, in an economy that could desperately use the tax revenue.
Consider this: If he DID pay 20 or 24%, he would also have the benefit of making his case on taxes better.
What it shows instead is his disdain for the rest of us and his willingness to pander in every aspect of his campaign except when it comes to his fair share, year after year. "Off the cuff" my ass. His words are his mantra.
Good riddance, Mr. Romney. I hope after this election cycle you become the bane of your party.
