Hello everyone. So as you know I've been writing diaries on sleeper races and close races that I believe deserve a lot of coverage. I haven't done a diary on the Ohio Senate race because it's one of the more popular races in the country and with this great community. But Senator Sherrod Brown (D. OH) is a great progressive Democrat who deserves to be re-elected. We all know how much money is being poured in this race and despite the barrage of negative ads, the GOP and right-wing Super PACs just can't get the good people of Ohio to vote for their tea party backed candidate, Josh Mandel (R. OH). Plus President Obama is going to win Ohio and win in the general election and the GOP is spending a lot of money to get Mitt Romney elected (and they are failing). These guys just won't quit, especially Karl Rove.
A few days ago, I received this e-mail from Senator Brown. I think you should give it a read:
One of our campaign staff told me a story, and I wanted to share it with you.
My campaign was helping out James Carville in his recent debate in Columbus against Karl Rove. Our staffer was sent to deliver background material, and had some trouble with security. He had to explain to a guard that he worked for my campaign and he was expected backstage.
Apparently, Karl Rove -- sitting in a room just off the hall -- overheard the conversation. And Karl yelled to our staffer: “If you’re going to use my name to fundraise, ask for more than $5!”
Rove thinks the contributions of grassroots supporters don’t mean much. Which makes sense, as I’m sure he’s used to asking for millions of dollars at a time.
You’ve contributed to this campaign in the past -- you know first hand the difference $5 can make.
Let’s show him what a strong grassroots network can do!
The average contribution from our online network is $32. If 3,125 supporters gave $32, we would raise $100,000 to show Karl Rove and his special interest friends what they’re up against.
Can you contribute $32 (or any amount more than $5) to help us once again?
Special interests, backed by the likes of Karl Rove and the Koch brothers, and fueled by Citizens United, have already spent more than $18 million attacking me on Ohio television.
I can’t say that I’m surprised -- I have fought to break up Wall Street banks that are too-big-to-fail, and I fought to end tax breaks for corporations that ship jobs overseas. I’m a proud progressive who stands up for the middle class -- aka, a special interest’s worst nightmare.
I don’t believe Karl Rove truly understands the power and scope of a people-powered campaign. Our supporters are more committed, more engaged, and more important to victory in this race than anybody’s bank account.
If he can so easily thumb his nose at us, let’s thumb our nose right back at him. I want to raise $100,000. If 3,125 supporters give $32 or more, we will do it. And if $32 is a little steep for you, give any amount you can afford over $5 (like $5.01) to help out.
Rove should know -- it’s not about what any one person can give. It’s about what a grassroots network like ours can achieve when all of those smaller contributions combine to fuel a people-powered campaign. You and I know that.
I’ve seen my grassroots supporters do incredible things over the past couple years -- hit goals that looked too ambitious to be realistic. But you’ve hit them all. You’ve been a part of that effort, and I am grateful for what you’ve done.
All it takes is a little teamwork. So if you can, help us hit $100,000.
Thank you for supporting this campaign, and helping me show Karl Rove what we can do.
Sherrod

Senator Brown is a strong progressive voice in the Senate running in a Swing State that needs to keep going Blue. Brown's record on Wall Street reform, the environment, green jobs, LBGT rights, veterans issues, unfrair trade deals, organized labor and the middle class proves he is one of the good guys that Rove and the GOP/Tea Party/Super PAC bad guys are trying to defeat. Just like they did to progressive hero, Senator Russ Feingold (D. WI). Brown has been very proactive in the movement to overturn Citizens United with Senators Al Franken (D. MN) and Bernie Sanders (I. VT). We will need Brown's vote in the Senate to confirm any upcoming Supreme Court nominees that favor over turning the Citizens United ruling. Brown has been endorsed by several organizations including the AFL-CIO and environmental organizations. Lets keep Sherrod in the Senate. Donate to his ActBlue page:
