There have been several diaries written on Todd Akin's wading the Rubicon en-route to an epic ass kicking by Claire McCaskill, most notably cdub24's excellent Hurt Locker rumination and Laura Clawson's fine effort.
I myself have written about Akin several times since the GOP primary and spend a lot of time thinking (and a lot of time working for Claire) trying to avert the calamity that would be Todd Akin and Roy Blunt representing my beloved home state in the U.S. Senate.
But it occurs to me that as hideous as that prospect is, what is even worse is the possibility that the whole country would suffer the indignity of having this country bumpkin and his senior, the Snake Oil salesman, operating in a Senate controlled by their misogynist, racist, ignorant political party.
And it also occurs to me that if the whole country is so threatened than the whole country should be made aware of the nature of that threat.
More beneath the bump.
Reading today that Jim Demint has officially endorsed Akin and is encouraging the GOP to do the same, I went searching the net for muck to fling at the candidate and boy did I find it. In addition to the web ad cited in cdub24's diary, seems the Missouri Democratic Party has Christened a second ad, which I believe the National Party should Air in every market where a Democratic Senator or Representative is threatened or is trailing his or her 'Thuglican opponent by less than 5 points. The name of the ad is "The Best of Akin" so irony is not yet quite dead:
For those with dial up:
"Social Security is just a tax." That's right just a tax, just ignore the millions of years of dignified retirement it has fostered, just a stupid tax...
On the Matthew Shepherd Hate Crimes Bill..."This Bill increases hatred in America".
Calls the President the devil. "Now if you wanted to destroy jobs what would you do? Just playing like you are the devil, and we have one pretty close to that".
"We have terrorists in our own culture, they are called abortionists."
Children's Heath Insurance Program? "SCHIP is on par with the titanic."
The ad ends with:
Todd Akin: A disaster waiting to happen.
Indeed.
Fellow kossacks and all within the democratic party I beseech you to make every effort to run a version of this ad, modified to an appropriate length, in every Congressional district we have any chance of winning or losing. Todd Akin has, in his hubris and colossal stupidity, just handed us the keys to the White-house and both chambers of congress on a silver, or, hell, golden platter.
We must seize this opportunity.
