I spent lunch yesterday talking to the Tax people about OctopodiCon, purchasing the event permit and all.

Itzl AlertingAs you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here.  We care!

If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.

My tax rep was a very sweet woman.  She's handicapped, too, uses a walker because of bad knees.  We spent a lot of time talking about Itzl.  She asked all sorts of questions about service animals - she knew all the tax codes rgarding them, but when I told her she could probably use a helper dog who would pick up things she dropped and bringthings to her so she didn't have to walk so far, and they could even turn on lights for her before she entered a room and act as a balance helper.

So we discussed some places she could go to see service dogs in action and decide if one would work for her.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?
Are you sure you want to remove your recommendation? You can only recommend a diary once, so you will not be able to re-recommend it afterwards.
Rescue this diary, and add a note:

Choose where to republish this diary. The diary will be added to the queue for that group. Publish it from the queue to make it appear.

Add a quick update to your diary without changing the diary itself:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary?
(The diary will be removed from the site and returned to your drafts for further editing.)
(The diary will be removed.)
Are you sure you want to save these changes to the published diary?

  •  I'm not really here... (10+ / 0-)

I'm a sleep deprived figment of my imagination. I've been awake for 20 some hours now and am unable to fall asleep. My son thinks this is funny. My cat thinks I'm awake for the day and getting up to feed her. I keep telling her she's sadly mistaken but she keeps coming back to jump on me anyway. So this isn't my official check in, that will come in the morning. But I'm going to let my son get on the computer for a bit before he goes to bed in just over two hours.

Hopefully good night all, otherwise, much like the Terminator: I'll be back.

to sleep.  Please try a bowl of cereal with some milk (a component in milk can help you sleep).

My thoughts are with you.  I went through a bout of this (when I was still working) for a couple of weeks.  It's awful.

milk before bed isn't a good choice for me unfortunately. It makes breathing more difficult and raises the chances of being woken with an asthma attack. A shot of rum helped though. I was probably falling asleep about the time Caedy was posting.
Part of a bad tooth I had finally came out around 2 am or so, so the rum served dual purpose.

Either way I slept for five hours.

Yeah, FloridaSNMom is now in bed, hopefully she will get some sleep.  But, who knows.

Gonna be a long day for me, because I didn't sleep all that well last night and am now heading out the door for my walk.

    UGH...that is all.

from the tax commission - $50 and the event is real and ready to go live.

I have the program book at the printers, and am finishing off the Junior Sprockets manual and contemplating printing copies of the Student Handbook.

I have to throw up the Pod websites and the Junior Sprocket website.  I wish I was more computer literate than I am, I'd like to design a cool site for each - 10 websites total, 9 of them with tiered, password protected group sharing functions.  Kind of like the ning sites combined with a more formal website. I can visualize it, I can't create it.

  •  I'm voting today! (6+ / 0-)

OFA is serving food at the courthouse.  Nothing like free food to get people to show up.  :-)   I need to hop in the shower now, and catch an early bus.  I've voted early before but never at a breakfast party.  I'm so excited!

a couple more weeks, Oregon, Oct 19 I think, they'll be in the mail on the way out to voters. Gives you 2 weeks and a bit to mark 'em up and get 'em back.

I almost never mail mine back, as there's a drop box at my branch library, and I'm there at least twice a week.

Since no ballots until the 19th, we also haven't started getting voters' pamphlet materials yet either. Have actually gotten next to no campaign mail this year, so far. I guess Oregon is pretty quiet, safely Lean-Dem! Neither Senate seat is up this year, so it's only the House, of course, and my district may be the most "exciting" -- definitely Koch Bro$. money against Peter DeFazio, actually saw an ad the other day, Peter's been voting "wrong" on Wall Street legislation & energy policy. Just like OREGON wants him to!!!
