A fable:

A farmer had only one horse. One day, his horse ran away.

All the neighbors came by saying, “I'm so sorry. This is such bad news. You must be so upset.” The man just said, “We'll see.”

A few days later, his horse came back with twenty wild horses. The man and his son corraled all 21 horses.

All the neighbors came by saying, “Congratulations! This is such good news. You must be so happy!” The man just said, “We'll see.”

One of the wild horses kicked the man's only son, breaking both his legs.

All the neighbors came by saying, “I'm so sorry. This is such bad news. You must be so upset.” The man just said, “We'll see.”

The country went to war, and every able-bodied young man was drafted to fight. The war was terrible and killed every young man, but the farmer's son was spared, since his broken legs prevented him from being drafted.

All the neighbors came by saying, “Congratulations! This is such good news. You must be so happy!” The man just said, “We'll see.”

The debate was an opportunity for voters to see and hear for themselves
  • Romney will voucherize Medicare while promoting generational divisions
  • Romney thinks Iowans should not concern themselves with how Mississippi treats poor people
  • Obama cannot be baited

What voters will do with this knowledge? We'll see.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  That Mitt Romney is OK with borrowing (0+ / 0-)

money from China to give himself a tax break, but not to fund award winning educational programs for kids.

That Mitt Romney loves to fire people so much he would take the hatchet to Big Bird whom he "loves" and relish the thought of how much he will enjoy doing it.

  •  Thanks for the perspective. (0+ / 0-)

It was a useful debate, and Obama accomplished what he needed to accomplish while Romney wounded himself even more gravely.
Amazing how few here see what is before their eyes.  They are so used to being told what to think that when what they see doesn't match what they are told panic sets in, ergo the pearl clutching.

    •  i've been rewatching it - and finding that (0+ / 0-)

debate fascinating - everyone should go back and view it again in the cold light of day.

it isn't what people thought it was.

romney comes off half-crazed and bugeyed and obama just quietly stands there and lets him.

go watch it - again - without the heat of the moment.
