Republican Congressman Jim Gerlach was elected to the House of Representatives in Pennsylvania's 6th District in 2002 and was considered a moderate Republican congressman based on his past voting record and bill sponsorship:

He even leaned center-left on issues such as health care, abortion and gay rights:

Gerlach was only one of a very few Republicans who could run as a moderate in 2010 and not be pressured by the Tea Party:

He has to stay moderate: He has won the sprawling Sixth Congressional District with the narrowest of margins since its creation in 2001. The district stretches from Bryn Mawr to Kutztown, sweeping through Main Line homes, Chester County suburbs, Berks County farms, and communities such as Norristown, Reading, and Coatesville.

But Gerlach's moderation isn't simply to win Democratic votes, he says. His childhood experiences prevent him from embracing the right's mantra against big government. His family depended on a government program - Social Security - when his father was killed by a drunken driver. - Philadelphia Inquirer, 10/27/12

But after the election, Gerlach decided to cave to Tea Party intimidation and join the rest of his party in voting for the Paul Ryan budget which turns medicare into a voucher program, continuously contribute to the GOP's ongoing obstruction to sabotage the economy and deny President Obama a second term.  What's worst is Gerlach was considered one of the last pro-choice Republican congressman from Pennsylvania but in order to avoid suffering the same fate as his former colleage, Senator Arlen Specter, Gerlach decided to be another GOP foot soldier in the war on women:

Manan Trivedi & Senator Casey

Here's a little background on Manan Trivedi and why you should help this great man win this seat.  His win will be essential in putting the gavel back in Pelosi's hand.  Here's info about Trivedi from his website:

There is also a great video where Trivedi goes into his background and his closest colleagues emphasize how Trivedi is good for the middle class:

And some more info from Dr. Trivedi's website on where he stands on the issues:

Dr. Trivedi has also taken an oath to put the middle-class first before Washington D.C.:

It goes without saying that Dr. Trivedi is a true public servant who has served his country and deserves to be in congress fighting for the middle class.  Gerlach on the other hand has received poor ratings from themiddleclass.org:

The Philly suburbs, especially PA's 6th & 8th districts, have become a lot bluer thanks to redistricting and thanks to guys like Rick Santorum tainting the Republican brand in the Philadelphia area.  With candidates like Kathy Boockvar (D) running against Mike Fitzpatrick (R. PA-8) and Dr. Trivedi running in the 6th district, we have excellent opportunities to increase our majority in the house and give Speaker Pelosi the gavel back.  Dr. Trivedi has been featured n the Orange to Blue posts on Daily Kos and Democracy For America has endorsed his campaign and is holding an Action Summit meeting tonight for Dr. Trivedi at 6:30 PM.  Details can be found here:

Gerlach has chosen to move to the far right like the rest of Republican Party.  Dr. Trivedi has chosen to side with women and the middle class.  Lets give Speaker Pelosi a great colleague in the house, help Dr. Trivedi out:

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
