Yesterday Romney said he wants to give Syrian Rebels U.S. stockpile of weapons heavy enough to shoot down Fighter Jets.
ROMNEY: "In Syria I will work with our partners to identify and organize those members of the opposition who share our values and then ensure they obtain the arms they need to defeat Assad's tanks helicopters and fighter jets."
~Romney speech Oct 2012
Now, the obvious failure in Romney's Policy to Arm Rebels with Heavy U.S. Weapons that could shoot down Syrian Fighter Jets is that, those heavy weapons could, and most likely would, fall in the hands of 'terrorists' and
those weapons would be strong enough to shoot down Israeli Airliners and/or Israeli Air Force Jets inside the Golan Heights.
The scenario I described is one that Israel has been fearful of for years. The Israeli-American Cooperation Enterprise (AIPAC)
wrote:
Israel is particularly concerned with a Syrian request from Russia for long-range S-300 surface-to-air missiles that could threaten IAF [Israeli Air Force] jets flying on the Israeli side of the Golan Heights.
But, to look like a tough guy, Romney says he wants to arm Rebels with heavy weapons, like surface-to-air missiles to shoot down Syrian Fighter Jets. What a schmuck ... what a PNAC stooge.
Last night on CNN, President Obama's National Security Adviser to his campaign, Colin Kahl said:
KAHL: I will just say that Governor Romney wants to give the opposition heavy weapons, to include weapons to shoot down Syrian fighter jets. Well, guess what? Those same weapons systems could shoot down Israeli airliners, which is why the Israelis don't want us to do that.
Romney's Foreign Policy warmonger, Richard Williamson, literally could not answer how heavy weapons would not end up in the hands of 'terrorists' if Romney gave them America's heavy weapons.
BLITZER: The specific point that Colin just made, that if you give shoulder-fired surface-to-air missiles to some of these guys, they wind up shooting down Israeli aircraft? How do you prevent that?
WILLIAMSON: Well, how you prevent it is not waiting until it gets out of hand, as it has today. You get involved earlier. You anticipate the problem. You lead. That's why you work with the opposition a year ago, not waiting until May when it's already being crowded out by extremists. That's why you start to arm the moderate opposition early this year. Not wait until late May before you let some of our friends do it.
Yes, it gets tougher when you fail to act, and you know what? It's going to continue to get tougher as we follow a strategy of passivity. You either lead and try to shape events, or you accept the consequences of being a bystander. And the results of being a bystander is forces that are against U.S. interests move in, fill the void, and that's why we have the turmoil in the greater Middle East today. It's unacceptable. We need leadership.
blah ... blah ... blah....
For the record, President Obama has been aiding the Syrian Rebels for a long time ... just not with heavy weapons that can shoot down Israeli Airliners and shoot down Israel Air Force jets --- like Romney's Policy calls for.
Romney's warmongers keep b!tching that President Obama didn't aid Rebels last year!!!
But, in March 2011, The Washington Times reported Syrian Rebels declined U.S. help.
Syrian rebels who have shaken the regime in Damascus do not want U.S. assistance, at least for now, a Syrian dissident in close touch with the network of protesters told The Washington Times on Sunday.
Also, in early 2011, President Obama ordered the SEALS to kill Bin Laden and President Obama had our military engaged in a mission that toppled Libya's Gaddafi regime (something Reagan tried, and failed, to do when he was in office.)
According to the Israeli Times, Syrian Rebels did not even ask for aid until August 11, 2012.
AZAZ, Syria (AP) — Syrian rebels were running low on ammunition and guns Friday as government forces tried to consolidate their control over Aleppo, the country’s largest city and a deadly battleground for more than two weeks.
The seemingly intractable, 17-month-old conflict in Syria has defied all international attempts to calm the bloodshed. Rebels and activists said Friday they have had enough of diplomacy and appealed to the international community to send weapons.
August 11, 2012
Prior to the Syrian Rebels asking for help August of this year, President Obama and our allies in the region had
already been aiding the Syrian Rebels with money, training and small weapons (weapons that could not shoot down Israeli jets).
From Reuters August 1, 2012 report
Obama's order, approved earlier this year and known as an intelligence "finding," broadly permits the CIA and other U.S. agencies to provide support that could help the rebels oust Assad.
August 2012 CNN
reported
Washington (CNN) -- President Barack Obama has signed a covert directive authorizing U.S. support for Syrian rebels battling President Bashar al-Assad's forces, U.S. officials told CNN on Wednesday. The secret order, referred to as an intelligence "finding," allows for clandestine support by the CIA and other agencies.
It was unclear when the president signed the authorization for Syria, but the sources said it was within the past several months.
Once again, Romney proves he cannot aim straight.
The biggest take-away from Romney's Foreign Policy speech is this:
Romney's Stated Policy would give Rebels heavy weapons that could shoot down "fighter jets" and those same weapons systems could shoot down Israeli airliners, inside the Golan Heights which is why the Israelis don't want us to do that.
