Hey everyone, this will be a rather short diary but I am just so excited right now because I just came home from voting! I have literally been counting down the days until early voting started in Indiana. I finished up my substitute teaching gig for the day and rushed over to the government center to cast my early vote!
It seems like just yesterday when I barely made the deadline to be old enough to vote for Kerry in 2004. I was the only person at my school with a Kerry bumper sticker. I doubt more than a handful of people at my school were even registered to vote. I really wish more people my age paid attention. It would make things so much easier for all of us.
Flash forward to today, where I had to wait 45 minutes in line to vote (today was also the last day to register here, so they were busy!). This is definitely a good sign. Obama won my county 67-32 last time. Kerry won it 61-38, so the more votes coming out of here, the better. I don't think Obama will win Indiana, but then again, I didn't think that last time either.
And I'm hoping that we can at least get Joe Donnelly into the Senate. It would be a disaster to have Richard Mourdock win. It would also be a disaster to have Mike Pence become our Governor, but that sadly seems to be inevitable. But hopefully I'm wrong on that one.
Oh and by the way, I had my brother come with me and vote too! This was his first election. We are doing our part to move this country forward. And having fun doing it!
P.S. To any prospective candidates who may read this: I still remember our Congressman, Pete Visclosky, coming to my kindergarten class and giving us pencils. God, how was that 20 years ago...but here he is still running for office, and getting my vote. So start early! All it takes is a pencil!
