Comic by Ruben Bolling - Muppet Mitt arrives on Sesame Street
  • Tonight is the big showdown between Vice President Joe Biden and Rep. Paul Ryan. It's a big fucking deal. Literally. And we'll be liveblogging it right here, starting at 9 PM ET.
  • Of course he did:
In 2009, Mitt Romney, who is now trying to campaign for president as a moderate, lent his star power to an unusual charitable project: celebrating right-wing talk show host Glenn Beck to raise money for an unaccredited Utah-based college, which was founded by acolytes of the late W. Cleon Skousen and promoted the work of this fringe conservative figure. Much-touted by Beck, Skousen was an anti-communist crusader, a purported political philosopher, a historian accused of racist revisionism, and a right-wing conspiracy theorist. [...]

In a video message—obtained by Mother Jones—that was recorded for the event, Romney praised Beck and this school, which the US Department of Justice has called a "diploma mill."

  • Do you want to know what Luke Skywalker thinks of Mitt Romney? Of course you do.
  • Just what our political discourse has been missing:
Kid Rock, the Republican rocker, and Sean Penn, the Hollywood liberal, have joined forces to make a point about politics.
  • Oh, pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty please? With a cherry on top?
  • Wantwantwantwantwantwantwant:
Forget the diamond as big as the Ritz. This one's bigger than planet Earth.

Orbiting a star that is visible to the naked eye, astronomers have discovered a planet twice the size of our own made largely out of diamond.

  • Today is National Coming Out Day. Just FYI, Republicans.
  • Your oh-sweet-Jesus-please-tell-me-you're-joking headline of the day:
  • Today's Kagro in the Morning show had Greg Dworkin back with us to take us on a tour of the polling landscape. From there, it was on to an exploration of new frontiers for the show—specifically science and space—with Aaron Oesterle (aka FerrisValyn), who joined us to talk about the first private, unmanned resupply mission to the ISS, pulled off by SpaceX and its Dragon cargo vessel, and the issues the future of space exploration presents.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
