Wouldn't you know...The Guardian has teamed up with RealClearPolitics and put together an absolutely kick-ass interactive website that simply and effectively gives you a snapshot of whether or not Romney is (likely to be) the next President: IsMittRomneyThePresident.com. Currently, it says a big fat NO:
But he could be the president-elect in 26 days on November 6, 2012, election day.
The most recent polls show Obama leading Romney in the race to 270 electoral votes.
Six states' polls are within 3% and considered tossups. Read more
Each candidate is holding balloons representing each state. The balloons are sized according to the number of electoral votes in play. When you hover over a balloon, you see the name of the state, the net percentage of winning there, and the # of electoral votes. Alternatively, you can hover over the greyed-out miniaturized states located beneath each candidate's electoral tally. Of course, this is all a snapshot and likely to change dynamically over the coming 26 days, but not likely by much as long as people show up to vote.
Obama has 247 electoral votes from the blue balloons. These stem from California, Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Washington, Delaware, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Maryland, Rhode Island, and Vermont. If you live in these states, please make sure you absolutely cast your vote.
Romney has 206 electoral votes (red balloons) coming from Arizona, Georgia, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, and Wyoming. If you live in these states, it wouldn't hurt to take a hockey stick to people's kneecaps so they don't show up on election day.
Both of them are holding the blue or purple balloons in the middle, representing 85 electoral votes that are within 3% net difference and therefore up for grabs: Colorado, Florida, Nevada, Ohio, Virginia, and Wisconsin. If you live in any of these states, please make sure to GOTV like your life depends on it because we are all counting on you.
I've always been a fan of The Guardian, but this is yet another example of why they're so spot-on. It doesn't hurt that the way they've named the site, "Is Mitt Romney the President?" could be interpreted as a slight to Romney after he slighted them.
The Brits don't fuck around.
Then again, they do have the identical but less wince-inducing "Is Barack Obama the President" website up, which blows a hole in my theory...but one can dream.
