First you've got Romney this morning going after Joe Biden for "Doubling-Down in Denial" on the Security Issues surrounding the Benghazi Attack.

Mitt Romney seized Friday on Vice President Joe Biden's characterization of the administration's handling of last month's terrorist attack in Libya, accusing the administration of contradicting itself and "doubling down on denial."

"The vice president directly contradicted the sworn testimony of State Department officials," Romney said at a rally in Richmond, Va. "He's doubling down on denial."

Actually no, he didn't. Biden didn't deny the claim the Tripoli Embassy had some security concerns (such as retaining a Private DC-3 for their use in Tripoli - which wouldn't have helped them defend against an attack in another city), he said "We [the White House] didn't Know".. and that's true as Jay Carney today explained.

Carney reinforced Vice President Joe Biden's assertion during Thursday's debate that neither Biden nor the president was informed about requests for additional security in Benghazi ahead of the attack on Sept. 11. And he said decisions about security levels there -- and at thousands of other U.S. missions around the world -- are "appropriately" made by security professionals at the State Department.
So, I'm thinking the White House is going to Stay on this position - rather than Double-Down because it happens to be the truth.

Most of the security issues expressed in the Issa hearing this week wasn't about a lack of support from the White House, it was between mid-level management inside the State Department itself.

Additionally the information that the attack "started as a demonstration" didn't come from the State Dept either, it apparent came from the Intel Community as Biden described.

"The intelligence community told us that," Biden said during his Thursday night debate with GOP vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan (R-Wis.). "As they learned more facts about exactly what happened, they changed their assessment."
This of course explains why Ambassador Susan Rice said the same thing on Meet The Press and the White House corrected her Four Days Later.  The State Dept had people on the ground and video of the incident that CIA & DIA et al, didn't have.

And simply because again, Biden told the truth, Eric Cantor has decided to attack him for it.

"I certainly hope there's more discussion about that because Joe Biden was quick to roll the CIA under the bus," he said of the incident. The administration later said the attack was planned by terrorists, not a result of protests against the video.

"I think this is also reflective of the relationship that the White House has had with the CIA," he added. "And it left the American people with more unanswered questions. The question is, why did the White House ignore the request for more security, how did all this happen in the first place? What is going on? Are we able to operate and secure our embassies?"

Dude, it wasn't at an Embassy, it was a the Consulate in a completely different city.  They didn't ask for more Security at the Consolate, they asked to keep their plane longer at the Embassy.  And oh-by-the way Eric Cantor voted for the Ryan Budget which cut $300 Million from Embassy Security, so exactly what is his point - "the Administration make an Executive Decision to use the resources we were taking away from them that wouldn't have made a difference in this particular attack?"

What's the point of explaining something to people who - because of their partisan bent - can't resist the disgusting urge to turn a horrible tragedy into a Political Hacky-Sack Ball?

But then again what else what you expect from a pack of cheap shameless political hucksters and grifters - aka The Modern GOP - who can't resist trying to grand-stand over the bodies of dead Americans just to gain some political points?

It practically reaks of the very definition of Un-American Activities.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

    d.  Excellent points but for the common joes and janes we first hear the attack was because of a demonstration against a video no one ever heard of.  Then it was an explanation that our consitution does not allow the government to silence those with regretful and hateful opinions that demean a religion. Then we find out the embassy or the consulate(those are the same for most people) wanted more security and was denied. We now hear that the State Dept, the White House and the CIA are once again not sharing information.  We get our news in soundbites and soundbites do not allow for nuances.  We have to do better.

    •  What? Now that sounds ridiculous. It doesn't (3+ / 0-)

sound like the State Dept would have reported to the President over the initial security issues that occurred earlier in the day. We have consulates and Embassies in hot spots all over the world and this is the kind of stuff that the State Dept and the CIA deal with on a daily basis. Between the protests going on in Cairo and in other cities over that damn film, what actually happened in Benghazi was always going to take time to seperate rumor from fact. I'm not going to bash the CIA or State just because that idiot Darrell Issa and his little even more idiotic minions "investigate" by goddamned outing our operatives live on freaking CSPAN!

And if Midiot Rmoney had done what most presidential candidates in history would have done and acted presidential instead of having such a hard on to exploit Benghazi for sheer political purposes before we were even sure anyone was dead, much less who they were and then doubled down on being 1000% wrong the next day by giving a bloody press conference 35 minutes before the President did? If he had acted even the slightest bit like a human, much less like a president, we might already have a much freakin' clearer idea of what happened to those 4 dead Americans.

More importantly, the families and loved ones of the 4 Americans who died a month ago wouldn't have to see their loved ones used as fodder by the GOP every day and they might have more answers as to how their loved ones died. Place the blame where the blame belongs right now.

      •  I am just pointing out the soundbites (0+ / 0-)

I am not agreeing with what is being poured out on the radio and tv but unless we give a clearer message people are going to believe this misinformation.  If it is said over and over then it must be true.  I do not want to see Libya become one of Mitt's talking points and I think it is clear that he plans on running with this one as we saw in the VP debate.

They think they can topple Obama on this one.  Fox, Rush, Romney and Ryan are all hitting on this today and they have an ad out now.  This is their knock-out punch.

Obama better get out ahead of this.  I would have very surrogate attacking Romney for shamelessly trying to politicize a tragedy.  back it up with an attack and a web ad. Do everything to turn this into a Romney weakness.  This issue must be addressed in clear/concise terms - it is a tragedy and, rather than coming together in a time of crisis, Romney chose to lie about it and shamelessly politicize the tragedy.

    1) Mitt's premature outburst
    2) Paul Ryan's vote to cut $300M in embassy security
    3) There were about a ten embassy attacks under Bush with greater--mostly far, far greater--numbers of injuries and casualties, and not once did even Democrats call into question the trustworthiness of the Bush administration for it.
    4) The accusation is that Obama ignored intelligence related to a 9/11 anniversary, as if the Bush administration's negligence with intelligence on THE 9/11 was not far more consequential.
    5) The Republican's efforts to cook up a political scandal lead to the outing of a CIA location to the world.
