Oh the irony. The right wing evangelists will do anything to get Obama out of the White House.  On  Grahams website on June 10, 2010 he stated.

A cult is any group which teaches doctrines or beliefs that deviate from the biblical message of the Christian faith. It is very important that we recognize cults and avoid any involvement with them. Cults often teach some Christian truth mixed with error, which may be difficult to detect.
Some of these groups are Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormons, the Unification Church, Unitarians, Spiritists, Scientologists, and others.
What does he say now?  More over the hump.

So old Billy ( he is 93 years old) is now endorsing someone that belongs to what he claims is a "cult". Personally I think he is right, but once he decided to endorse his new buddy Mitt, he had to scrub his website of any mention of the cult.
Billy stated

“It was a privilege to pray with Governor Romney—for his family and our country. I will turn 94 the day after the upcoming election, and I believe America is at a crossroads. I hope millions of Americans will join me in praying for our nation and to vote for candidates who will support the biblical definition of marriage, protect the sanctity of life and defend our religious freedoms.”
Now you can go to this link on the Graham website and see that they say:
Our apologies, but the article you requested doesn't exist.

The funny thing is if you go to that webpage on either google chrome or Internet Explorer and the name of the page  on the tab at the top of the page is "What is a Cult?"
Of course a guy 93 years old probably never heard of a website called the waybackmachine. The archive of the internet. As everyone knows, once something is on the net, it ain't going away.  So here is thelink to the original page before it got wiped.
Like I said... oh the irony.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

I have lived in the South all of my life, and I have been hearing about the abominable "cult" LDS all of my life.  It's pure hypocrisy for Graham to support a cult leader when the President has proclaimed his Christianity.

Billy Graham and his son are going straight to hell.

the least bit relevant since Bush, Sr. was in office. Who cares what he thinks or says about anything? And more often than not, the second generation of extremists are more ridiculous and corrupt than the first. Google "Bush Family" for an example of this fact.
Also, I think it can be expected that most Republicans will be going straight to Hell.

  •  Note this other definition of "cult" he had up... (4+ / 0-)

"They do not accept that our relationship to Jesus Christ is a reality "by grace through faith" alone, but promote instead a salvation by works. "

That is clearly aimed at Catholics, but he's not quite so brave about taking on the Catholic Church by name.

I was stunned when I heard this.  Here's a screenshot from the Charlotte Observer, 10/11/12.  Strangely, I can no longer find the original linked article, but here's a photo gallery.

I told people long ago, nothing is worse then skin color to racist. Nothing. I knew they would support Mormon over Black. Old Billy is going for the cult guy. He would go for a Jehovah witness, or for someone who forms another religion today. Even snake handlers over Obama.

That's a good one. My church has a bell forged in Paul Revere's foundry-- just to say we've been around a while. And ministering to Unitarians has been compared to herding cats. We love our ministers, but we don't call them pastors because we are not a flock.

What has changed about the theology of Mormonism that allows an evangelical fundamentalist Christian to embrace it as a part of main stream Christianity. Have they rejected any of their fundamental tenets? Do they still believe that Jesus and Satan are brothers? That humans can achieve divinity equal to God Himself?

This is the reason more and more Americans are turning away from organized religion. This isn't a revelation. It's a political calculation.

Televangelism is a big business, and Billy Graham is as big as it gets. Even a shrewd business man needs to hedge his bets once in a while. (or go all in, depending on how you want to look at it)

Just think of the donations/sales that would pour in once they organize to vote that gay socialist muslim out of office.

and, on nov 21, 2010, the article was reformatted with two interesting challenges from a mormon and someone who answered him.

here is the text of the article on cults where mormonism is mentioned and the next block quote are the two comments.  interesting!

    What is a cult?

A cult is any group which teaches doctrines or beliefs that deviate from the biblical message of the Christian faith. It is very important that we recognize cults and avoid any involvement with them. Cults often teach some Christian truth mixed with error, which may be difficult to detect.

There are some features common to most cults:

    •    They do not adhere solely to the sixty-six books of the Bible as the inspired Word of God. They add their "special revelations" to the Bible and view them as equally authoritative.

    •    They do not accept that our relationship to Jesus Christ is a reality "by grace through faith" alone, but promote instead a salvation by works.

    •    They do not give Jesus Christ, the divine Son of God, full recognition as the second Person of the Trinity, composed of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

Some of these groups are Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, the Unification Church, Unitarians, Spiritists, Scientologists, and others.

Hello, I saw this article, and as a Mormon, I thought I'd provide a comment. Paul emphasized faith in Christ, not boasting of our selves. James said faith without works is dead. So who do we believe, Paul or James? How about both? What did Jesus say?Love God, all men and and to let people see our good works. The Bible is full of commandments and admonishments from prophets and the son of God to keep the commandments. How does that deviate from the Bible?Mormons believe that Jesus is a member of the Godhead as described in the Bible. We believe Jesus is the literal resurrected son of God, just as Stephen saw him on the right hand of the Father. The Trinity is not mentioned in the Bible. The doctrine of the Trinity came from a council of men in the 4th Century. The doctrine of the Trinity confuses the very resurrected nature of Christ. Mormons believe the Bible. The entire Bible. Literally. We believe that Jesus is the son of God and that he died for the sins of all mankind. His Church bears his name. We worship him as our redeemer. We also claim boldly that Christ has restored his church in the latter days. If you'd like to know what Mormons really believe, visit http://lds.org/ Either way, have a nice day!

Why does God allow such things to happen to people lost in believing, even though they themselves truly love God but in different ways and different doctrines? Please don't say that you are NOT God so you can't answer.
