I've never been a cycling fan, but know people who are, and know Lance Armstrong is, or has been, some superhero to the sport.
Now that things have started to fall down all around him, I am really dumfounded that anyone who reached that status would dare to be such a fraud.
I suspect most of us do stuff that isn't entirely honest. We have used the copier at work for some personal stuff, right? (Mea culpa)
But I cannot wrap my mind around the audacity of someone so celebrated to go on for years, cheating, and yet accept being an icon. And not only that, but to be a poster child for a cause. What goes through their minds?
The Scott Walker aide that was found to be embezzling funds for a returning veteran's program: did it once cross his mind that that if he was caught he would bring shame upon the Republican party who projects itself as pro-military?
Or is merely a matter of scale? Since I am so far below Romney's 200K middle-class, are my copier violations just as proportionate to the Wall Street wizards who knew they were selling crap?
