The Tulsa World endorsed Democrat John Olson for Congress, which is surprising.

I don't know much about this race, or where the polls stand, but I do know that Oklahoma's CD1 could really use a good Democrat in it considering how awful John Sullivan has been for the district.  I don't have a ton of time to do in-depth analysis or write a huge long diary about this, but as a native Tulsan, I would love to see a Dem have a fighting chance in this district (and a Dem who doesn't appear at first blush to be a Blue Dog).

In any event, I think Olson could use the DKos community's "red to blue" support this cycle.

Also, go Sooners.  Because um, sports.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

As a person that lived in Tulsa for about 3 years (and hated it ended up moving to the left coast), I must say that this is very surprising.  I didn't know that they knew how to even spell democrat there...

A real Democrat (not a Blue Dog).  His opponent is a hard core teabagger - anti-everything except pro-tax cuts for the rich, and pro that flat tax SCAM!

But the polls we do have (from August 14 and September 6), show Bridenstine way out ahead. There's an independent candidate named Craig Allen who holds positions that are virtually indistinguishable from Bridenstine's but he doesn't seem to be getting any traction. Too bad - it would have been nice to see a vote split on the right.

from a methodological POV. Olson polled in July (a long time ago) - was an 11-pt race even though Olson only had 19% name rec.

  •  Grew up in Tulsa (0+ / 0-)

Worked in Democratic Party there for a long time.  First District was Republican even when rest of the state was Democrat.  Tulsa County went for Goldwater in 1964.  I understand Republican candidate is terrible, but I don't think there's much reason to be optimistic.

Two elections in a row Republican presidential candidate has carried 77 out of 77 OK counties.

Boren's seat in the SE ... is there any chance a Blue Dog can hold it?

BTW, now live in suburban Denver.  People still friendly, like in OK, but much more tolerant.
