Here are the latest figures out of Iowa, along with voter registration updates in NV, PA, and NC!
First here are the numbers for the absentee ballot requests:
Dems 207,076 (46.25%)
Reps 137,083 (30.62%)
Inds 103,098 (23.03%)
Oth 448 (negligible)
TOTAL 447,705
Here are the new ballot requests since the last report:
Dems +6,604
Reps +6,147
Inds +5,296
This is the second straight day that Democrats outstripped Republicans in absentee ballot requests. This is a very positive development because for a while there, Republicans were outpacing Democrats by a large margin with regard to this metric.
And now, here are the numbers for actual ballots cast:
Dems 132,946 (50.24%)
Reps 78,865 (29.81%)
Inds 52,548 (19.86%)
Oth 238 (negligible)
TOTAL 264,597
Here are the ballots cast since the previous daily report: 13,000
Dems +8,953
Reps +8,720
Inds +5,706
Close to 25,000 votes were cast since the previous daily report. As you can see, Republicans are right behind Democrats in ballots cast for this daily report. But they're not there yet! About 54,000 more Democrats have cast ballots than Republicans in Iowa up to this point. By the end of the early voting period in 2008, Democrats were ahead of Republicans by about 86,000 ballots cast, so we have some work to do. I'm going to try to find out what the numbers were in 2004 so we can use them as a benchmark.

And now for some good news regarding voter registration in battleground states.
NEVADA
According to an article I just found online, Democrats are doing great in voter registration in Clark County, Nevada. As of Sept. 30th, here were the active voter registration counts in Clark County:
Dems 361,913
Reps 252,966
Margin: Dems +108,947
According to the article, here are the latest figures for active voters in Clark County:
Dems 390,073
Reps 262,643
Margin: Dems +127,430
That means that Democrats have increased their advantage over Republicans by an additional 18,483 active voters! Clark County accounts for 67% of all active voters in Nevada so this is truly awesome news! We are going to win Nevada!

PENNSYLVANIA
And now for the latest numbers out of Pennsylvania. Here are the figures for newly registered voters since the last weekly report:
Dems +22,552
Reps +12,945
Inds +13,360
As you can see, Democrats are still crushing Republicans among new voter registrations in Pennsylvania.
Here are the voter registration totals for the state of Pennsylvania:
Dems 4,235,483 (50.06%)
Reps 3,126,257 (36.95%)
Inds 1,098,727 (12.99%)
TOTAL 8,460,467
Margin: Dems +1,109,226
(The final 2008 margin was 1,236,467)
Do not forget, when John Kerry won Pennsylvania in 2004, Democrats had a voter registration advantage of only 580,000 over Republicans. And this might not be the final report going into the 2012 elections, because the state is probably dealing with a backlog of registrations even though the deadline to register has passed. We will know more about this next week.

NORTH CAROLINA
Since the last weekly report, here are the figures for new voter registrations:
Dems +15,609
Reps +8,319
The registration totals as of the latest weekly report are as follows:
Dems 2,818,932
Reps 2,027,613
Inds 1,680,661
So, as we can see, the Democrats have a voter registration advantage of 791,319 over Republicans. Four years ago, the advantage was about 790,000, so we are slightly ahead of where we were four years ago.
