From the GREAT STATE OF MAINE…
[Ding Dong!] "Hellooooo…!!!"
Tuck in your shirts, kids, we got company this week.
Keep your eyes peeled starting this morning for visits from some of our more notable registered Kossacks as they help spread the word on the importance of getting out the vote. Among the VIPs posting this week during the Daily Kos GOTV Blogathon diaries…
Senator Gillibrand is part of
the Daily Kos GOTV blogathon
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand
Gov. Howard Dean
Tammy Duckworth
Sen. Sherrod Brown
Gov. Jennifer Granholm
House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi
Sen. Al Franken
Rebuild the Dream's Van Jones
Rep. Barbara Lee
Fmr. Labor Sec. Robert Reich
Richard Trumka
…for starters.
The goal is to get their messages out to as many people as possible, so keep an eye on the diaries and when you see one, give it a rec, a tweet, a Facebook "Like," a Digg, a Stumble, a Tumble and any other way you can igg or umble. Shout them from a rooftop with a bullhorn. Lite-Brite 'em, Spirograph 'em, spell 'em out in candy corn. Skywrite 'em, Sidewalk-chalk 'em, use semaphore from the deck of your battleship. But get the word out.
The Daily Kos GOTV Blogathon is the brainchild of Patriot Daily News Clearinghouse, Onomastic, rb137, JekyllnHyde, boatsie and adviser Meteor Blades. They'll be sending email notices when posts are published, and if you'd like to be added to the alert list, just email PDNC patriotdaily [at] gmail.com.
With the debates over (Did Romney ever show up last night? All I saw was Obama talking to an empty chair), this election is now all about GOTV. So watch for the blogathon posts, rec 'em up, share 'em and, seriously, tuck in your shirts. Company's coming.

Tuesday Words of Wisdom from the Right-wing Blogosphere:
Crowley couldn't jump to O's defense fast enough. And the little whiner even thanked her. Disgusting. Crowley has been a disaster as are all of the leftist journalists who are in the O's pocket.

While the president talks sensible foreign
policy, Mitt prays for a power outage.
CHEERS to spending a night overseas. President Obama and Bully McCheesygrits debated on foreign policy last night. Be sure to scroll down the front page for Jed & Co.'s excellent (what else?) liveblog posts. As best as I can figure, Obama wants a nimble foreign policy that relies on diplomacy, carrots and sticks, and an eye for innovative ways of dealing with future threats before they happen and future opportunities for peace as they crop up. Romney wants to bring General John Pershing back from the dead to create a fresh fleet of ironclads, deploy divisions of doughboys in saucer helmets on horseback with fixed bayonets into wherever his dart lands on the map of the Middle East, and place an order for a few dozen 'o them new-fangled Gatling guns, but not before making "Over There" our new national anthem. Plus this from
Josh Marshall at TPM:
Romney seemed increasingly lost. Obama seemed comfortable, happy. The visuals told the story. Romney was sweating a lot and looked like he was in pain. Into the second half of the debate Romney’s answers seemed more jumbled and unfocused. There was even that rambling and generally uncontroversial digression on Pakistan. Why? He seemed lost. ... [H]e had what President Obama had in the first debate: that look of someone who wanted to be anywhere but on that stage.
All the polls show that Obama won handily, so the final score for the 2012 campaign is: 1 debate win for Team GOP, 3 debate wins and 1 convention win for Team Kickass. Or as Republicans are calling it: a draw.
CHEERS and JEERS to post-Ghaddafi Libya: Year 1. One year ago today, Libyans were out in the street celebrating Liberation Day by chanting, singing, dancing, and shooting their guns into the air (we still have a few bullets lodged in our roof). In light of the recent anti-American attack by a bunch of thugs (bad!) that resulted in a pro-America backlash by a bunch of outraged citizens (good!), it's worth revisiting how the country's rebirth was, um, birthed:
One year after liberation,
still a work in progress.
Cheering crowds packed a central square in Benghazi Sunday afternoon for a ceremony that leaders said formally marked victory after eight months of fighting. "We are now united. We have become brothers in love," said Mustafa Jalil, the council's chairman.
He called on Libyans to have "honesty, patience and tolerance" as the nation moves toward reconciliation.
If I recall correctly, his chief rival suggested that "patience, tolerance and harmony" would work better, while another tribal faction insisted on nothing less than "tolerance, patience and honesty" before storming out and vowing vengeance. Our verdict after one year: a very messy work in progress.
JEERS to today's boring correction. The Billy Graham Christian-Industrial complex's definition of Mormonism has changed in an instant from "evil cult" to "benevolent followers in Christ who just happen to own real estate on other planets." But the Graham Conglomerate's traditional definiton of marriage remains the same now and forever. Because, hey, let's not get crazy.
JEERS to letters from the C&J mailbag. Delivered via the local fire brigade…
Dear America,
Hello! We hope you're enjoying the fall colors and the fresh cool breezes as the year begins to wind down. Everyone here sure loves it. Soon people young and old will be dressing up as ghouls and goblins for Halloween and then, before you know it, Thanksgiving will be upon us. We sure hope you have a grand one, with lots of turkey and all the trimmings! May the memories of the season bring you tiding of joy for years to come. And thanks for using our fabulous sunscreen throughout last summer!
Oh, and also we probably should have told you last summer that our fabulous sunscreen may cause you to burst into flames.
With seasons greetings and good cheer,
Your Friends at Banana Boat
The coupon for 20% off aloe therapy was a nice touch, I thought.
CHEERS to a guy who was g'g'g'g'good to the bone. E. Donnall Thomas, Father of bone marrow transplant, has died at 92. In his honor, he'll be buried in one spot and then moved to another.
CHEERS to shining a little light on the trolls. This is interesting---Maine's largest newspaper, the Portland Press Herald, is requiring that commenters at their web site use actual names from now on. Here's what it looks like under the average online article this morning:

Courage!
CHEERS to the greatest game ever played through the blades of a windmill. On October 23, 1930, the last round of the first miniature golf tournament was played in Chattanooga. The winner was J.K. Scott. Today putt-putt golf continues to delight Americans from coast to coast. Republicans especially love it. It's fulfills their ideological fantasy: nothing but green after green after green…

CHEERS to playing on the other guy's swing set. Barack Obama now leads on two traditionally-Republican issues, according to the latest Ipsos/McClatchy poll (via TPM):
What might have been
still gives me the creeps.
On taxes, for example, likely voters now prefer Obama over McCain by a margin of 8 percentage points. This is despite a concerted effort by McCain and running mate Sarah Palin to cast Obama as a tax-and-spend liberal who'd raise taxes on ordinary folks such as Joe the Plumber, an Ohio man whom McCain cited repeatedly in the last debate and since then in ads and on the campaign trail.
On family values, a subject Republicans have used to court Christian conservatives and suburban moderates since the 1980s, likely voters now prefer Obama over McCain by 8 points. That's up from 3 points in mid-September...
McCain campaign manager Rick Davis responded that his guy still holds significant leads on anger issues and general confusion. Rah rah.

And just one more…
JEERS to the other secret Romney tape. Bill Maher, ever the intrepid detective, has dusted off another secret dinner speech that's sure to get the GOP candidate in more hot water. This one is older, but…my god:
After watching that, all I can say is: save what's left of your tattered integrity, Republicans, and vote for Gary Johnson!!! (C'mon...you know you want to, anyway.)
Oh, and a quick reminder that it's "Save For Retirement Week." Please rob enough banks to hit your 2012 goals and have a nice day! Floor's open...What are you cheering and jeering about today?
