The Foreign Service Officers Test is the first step to becoming a member of the Diplomatic Service. The test covers many areas of knowledge - economics, history, geography, English language usage, etc. While difficult, about 20 to 30 % of the people who sit for the exam do pass (while a smaller percentage actually become Foreign Service Officers).
Saying that Syria is "Iran's route to the sea" is an error that the average person might make - but I'm pretty certain that no one who could pass the FSOT would make that mistake. It was so obvious last night that President Obama has the depth and breadth of knowledge regarding world affairs that we deserve from our President (not to mention the clear, rational approach to decision-making). And Mitt Romney does not.
He could not pass the FSOT.
