Checking in with my Google News feed for all news Elizabeth Warren-related, as you do, and there's some really good stuff today about my future US Senator, so I thought I would share...
First, the candidate did an interview with WBUR, the Boston NPR news affiliate (audio available at the link), in which she displayed her famous fiesty nature, and brought the funny:
Part of bipartisanship is recognizing the shortcomings of proposals coming from one's own party. Along those lines, what do you see as shortcomings of President Obama?
Oh, come on. Here we are two weeks before the election, I'm out here working for President Obama. I want to see him as commander-in-chief.
But look, I've maintained my independence. You started this line of questioning with my standing up to [Treasury] Secretary Geithner and my making it clear that there were places where I thought the current administration's dealing with the financial crisis was not the best that it could be. And I was perfectly willing to speak out. And I will be perfectly willing to speak out as the senator from the commonwealth of Massachusetts.
You've been under the microscope for a really long time now, so I'm going to ask the impossible: Can you take yourself out of the campaign mode for just a moment and tell us something about Elizabeth Warren that no one knows yet?
Oh gosh, you know what bumped into my mind? (laughs) I brush my dog's teeth.
I'm sure you're dog really appreciates that.
The truth is, he seems to like it, and it gives him a nice smile.
Future Senator Warren recently sat down with the editors of two Western Massachusetts newspapers, the Pittsfield-based Berkshire Eagle and the North Adams Transcript for long ranging interviews. Both interviews are well worth reading in full, but here are the bits that caught my eye:
Warren predicted that if the health care law is attached to the annual budget by a Republican Congress, President Obama, if he's re-elected, could find himself forced to sign the repeal.
"I do not want us to be there," she said, "but it's a strong reminder of what could be at stake in this Senate race."
"I don't want to go to Washington just to disappear, just to say I was a senator; for me, this is about the urgency of the moment."
Finally, if you've not yet seen the hilarious clip of Senator Al Franken speaking at a huge Warren rally in Worcester several days ago, in which he offered sage parenting advice (sort of), invoked the memory of the great Paul Wellstone, and got the huge crowd of Warren volunteers fired up for the final two week push, well let's just say you owe it to yourself to watch it, perhaps several times. It's that good. Go, now, and watch Al Franken @ this link...and enjoy. You're welcome! :-)
Two weeks to go! I'll be canvassing as much as possible over the coming weeks, and then working all day every day on November 3rd through 6th. I'll be poll watching on November 6th somewhere in the greater Boston metro area -- maybe I'll see you there!
As always you can sign up to get involved, help GOTV and donate at ElizabethWarren.com.
UPDATE: From the comments (h/t Scarce) we now have proof of the excellent dental health (and overall happiness) of Elizabeth's dog, Otis. :-)
