Oh, you've heard the story, Obese Doxie meets girl who's going to change his life but rescue agency has remorse over letting girl give this portly guy a new lease on life and now wants him back. Or have you?
Obie got a lot of attention a couple of months ago because, really, how often do you see a 77 pound Doxie? This poor guy was being smothered with love and when I mean smothered, I mean, fed to death. His owners were unable to care for him and were substituting proper care with overfeeding and not enough exercise. They did the best they could under the circumstances and knew they need to give their precious Obie a new lease on life, he needed help.
Nora agreed to help this not so little guy lose weight. And she's been doing a fantastic job, just read the update from the rescue agency who let her foster Obie.
But for some reason they want him back and have demanded that Nora turn Obie over to them by Monday. It's a custody battle.
I've been following Obie's Facebook page. I've seen nothing but how well he's doing and I have to tell you, it's been rather inspiring to watch him change. It can't be an easy thing to do to care for him. No one wanted to take him!
And here's a before and after:
And a recent trip to the beach after losing 15 pounds.
You can see Obie wanting to be a DOG! It's so hard for him. But in two months he's already looking healthier! And he's bonding to Nora, why take him away from her?
I have to say, I'm quite biased. I really believe that Nora is doing her best with him and she's having success with Obie. A custody battle over a Doxie? This is what makes me so infuriated with rescue organizations, who is this really about, you or the dog? (And I mean this rescue organization, I shouldn't make broad sweeping generalizations about ALL rescue organizations. There are just too many animals with out homes and not enough resources to care for them and find them forever families, I commend those who devote their lives to this very difficult and heart wrenching work. I've rescued two dogs myself and wish I could rescue more.)
So, for those who might agree with me, there is a petition to ask that Obie stay in Nora's care, please sign it.
After he loses his weight, he's probably going to need surgery and this is going to be a long road for Obie, I think moving him from home to home is not in his best interest.
Also a Facebook page to show support for Nora, Biggest Loser~ Free Obie, who belongs with Nora and her Nogin Family. If you go to the page there are lots of adorable photos of woozles showing support for Obie and Nora.
My daughter has fallen in love with Obie, my sweet girl who wants to rescue every dog possible. She wants to meet Obie and she is so happy that he's in a happy home. So this diary is for Charlotte, Nora, Obie, and the whole Noggin family.
Obie and Noggin :)
