I live in Florida.

The first time I voted was in 2000.

I've been so bombarded by stupid PAC ads for R/R that I'm constantly switching channels on my radio or TV and writing to all the stations telling them that, while I understand free speech and ad buys, why don't they vet the ads for LIES?

I am off from work today because of Hurricane Sandy.  I'm working from home and watching the Today Show, getting stressed over 5 or 6 Rove ads in a row, when I see this:

First time it's been on where I've seen it - it made me cry, because it DOES matter and I've always wondered what the course of our history would have been if Al Gore had fought harder and won the case.  It made me brave enough to attempt posting my first diary here on DK (and even embed a video - hope it works!)

And, while the weather is still only "iffy" (supposed to get worse later), I'm driving over to the election office to deliver my Absentee Ballot.  I want to know it's in their hands and not lost in the mail somewhere.

Then I'll come home and work, so that I have the whole weekend to go to my Pembroke Pines OFA office and see if there is something I can do to help GOTV.  Early voting starts tomorrow!

Get out and vote.  Tell your family.  Tell your friends.  Make it an event - take your kids and do it together - celebrate afterwards - go to the park, go to a movie, go home and remind your neighbors to go vote!

Because every vote DOES matter.

Update below the Orange Cloud Thing!

I'm happy - I Voted Today!!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

need to get back on the phone. I've been fighting the flu this week and yesterday was the first day I missed making calls and I feel so guilty about it. I will start earlier today and work even harder this weekend to get the word out about Early Voting and how important it is for everybody to get to the polls.

I'm working at home today (now that I'm back from the election office) and tomorrow I'm going over to see what I can do to help - not sure if I'm brave enough for phone banking, but I know there is always something to do at the local OFA offices, so I will do whatever they need :)

I can't believe the video worked - now I have to see if I can update the bottom with a picture from this morning.

since they've eliminated most of the Republicans from the list. It's mainly calling people and making sure they know about Early Voting, giving them the location and encouraging them to do it.

I had a woman tonight say she had received something in the mail telling her she could vote by FAX. It's not difficult and mostly you get people who support President Obama.

You should give it a try. The most efficient way to do it is using the auto-dialer at the OFA office. That way you are only connected with people who answer the phone. You don't have to sit and dial number after number.

this! I, too, have spent many long hours wondering how different our country and the world would be had the Supreme Court not made such an appalling and blatantly partisan ruling and had Gore fought harder. Now, it is too painful to imagine our Twin Towers still standing and no war in Afghanistan and no illegal and unconstitutional debacle that was Irag. I said to my then husband the day the SCOTUS released their decision that the consequences of that stolen election would likely be far greater than we could even begin to imagine. How I wished I'd been wrong.

But I will never forget the 2000 election and we must make sure we never see the likes of it again.
