Every week since the Republicans wond the House in 2010, we have seen bill after bill passed/discussed to limit the right to choose. Even many of my female friends say that issue doesn't matter and to focus on the "issues". This issue DOES matter and it is why I find it repulsive that we may have Akin and Mourdock as 2 of the most influential legislators in the WORLD. The Senate Matters!
Now, I would love to live in a world where:
- No woman ever learns that she has cancer
- No woman is ever raped
- No woman ever lives in fear of her life due to domestic violence
But, sadly, we live in a world where these things happen.
Now, picture your wife, daughter, yourself or someone you love faced with any of those horrible circumstances. Now, picture them learning that they are also pregnant. Breaks your heart, right? It brings tears to my eyes.
For all the Republican talk of keeping government out of healthcare decisions, they want to get smack in the middle of these situations (and the countless other equally heart wrenching decisions). I don't believe anyone is "pro-abortion". I would think we all want the demand for abortion to be reduced. But, if my daughter was ever in any of these situations, I would trust her and her doctor (not some old grumpy white man that doesn't even believe in science) to make a decision that is right for her based on her beliefs and her needs. And, if she chose to terminate to make sure she could aggressively treat a cancer or to not have to carry a rapist's baby, I would not love her one bit less.
It just saddens me to no end that Akin and Mourdock could be in the Senate. What a sad statement that is to the rest of the world about Americans and how we view women!
Come on Missouri and Indiana, think about what a vote for these men means to your wife, yourself, your daughter....and what it says about America's faith in women.
Claire McCaskill and Joe Donnelly for Senate!
