Why do we need to send Alan Lowenthal to Congress?
Well, two things pointed out by President Bill Clinton at an endorsement rally a few days ago were Alan’s track record of protecting education and his effectiveness in defending our environment.
Whether it is authoring legislation to increase success rates and graduation rates from California Community Colleges or working with the private sector to build new infrastructure and create thousands of high-paying jobs, Alan Lowenthal gets things done -- he is a man of the people, for the people.
President Clinton knows it; I know it; and, I’m almost certain that you know it too.
Mere months after President Clinton was sworn into office in 1992, Alan Lowenthal was being sworn in for his first term as a Long Beach City Councilman. From there, they both embarked on a journey to help the community, albeit on different scales -- but both equally effective.
During the first term of President Clinton’s presidency, over 22 million American jobs were created, the budget was balanced, we had one of the biggest surpluses in recent memory, and the Violence Against Women Act was passed. Throughout the Clinton years, our economy was booming, trade grew exponentially, and our diplomatic relations had reached their zenith.
Clinton supports Alan Lowenthal’s campaign because he is a progressive, a visionary, and will protect the future of America's education and make climate change not only imperative to deal with, but to transform it into an economic opportunity.
If elected, Alan Lowenthal will work to pass the American Jobs Act, which will create millions of jobs and give tax breaks to small businesses that hire veterans; he will vote against more tax breaks to millionaires and Big Oil and vote for more domestic investment to stimulate our economy; and, he will relentlessly fight to protect equality and fairness for all Americans.
President Clinton pointed out some very interesting facts at the UC Irvine endorsement rally:
1) Alan Lowenthal helped make the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles the cleanest and greenest ports in the world.
2) Alan Lowenthal’s leadership helped usher in one of the nation’s first Clean Trucks Program, which helped cut diesel emissions at the Port by almost 75%, and created hundreds of high-paying jobs with benefits. This "Lowenthal Model" that Clinton called "good economics" proved that business and environmental protection are not mutually exclusive.
3) Alan Lowenthal’s experience as a college professor and as Chair of the Senate Education Committee makes him a qualified leader to help protect the future of America’s education.
The former President’s endorsement is a signal that we are on the right track, and this race has earned the national attention it deserves.
Now, all we need is you; your voice, your vote, and your support will propel us to victory.
And, if you haven't done so already, please join the conversation on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
Thank you,
