Here is the cold political reality: Not enough woman care about abortion to make it a winning or wedge issue.
The simple reality is that the Democrats are making a huge mistake focusing on abortion and a "war on woman" when they should focus on the issues that woman likely care more about like education, health insurance and rising costs.
I am stunned to see Obama's lead among women shrinking. I cannot see how any woman could support a political party with members like Ryan, Murdoch and Akin.
But many many women do support this party. In fact many women are going to vote for the worst offenders Akin and Murdoch. Why? Well, no one has the answers but I have some thoughts.
Don't get mad at me, but let's just be honest and realize that many Republican voting woman are menopausal and cannot get pregnant. And even when they could get pregnant they practiced abstinence, only had sex after marriage or practiced sober and safe sex so they never felt abortion was an issue.
This might be a little crude, but it as a fact. You cannot attract that woman voter on the abortion issue. In fact, this part of the diary is not a theory because we know 45%+ (or so) of woman are going to vote Republican -- as crazy as that seems. Think of it this way: If a woman was running for office saying anything about men's personal parts she would receive 0% of the man vote for sure!
Obama should have been trying to attract that woman voter on other issues maybe education, health care and rising prices at the grocery store and everywhere else.
Now, what I really am interested in is not being yelled at for my theory, but hearing from others their thoughts on:
1. Why Obama's lead has shrunk among women;
2. Why women will support Murdoch in Indiana and Akin in Missouri when they have such crazy views about women; and
3. Would a strategy addressing eduction, health care or whatever other issues be more successful for Obama to attract women.
Anyway, I want Obama to win and it looks like he is going to win (knock on wood), but I am blown away at why his lead among women is shrinking (or has shrunk) and wonder why?
My belief is this: Abortion is not a winning issue and when you can destroy Romney on so many others it is a waste of time to do this "war on woman" thing.
