Am I the only one who is concerned that with Sandy headed into the NE and the election a week away, that the situation is ripe for massive voter fraud by ends-always-justify-the-means repugs?

I mean give me a break, these people (corporations are now people right?) have already proven that they will do anything to win, so why would we even question whether they will take advantage of power outages, death, devastation and the like to throw the election their way? You too could make a list, but here are a few things that immediately come to my mind.

* Make it easier for voters in Repug-leaning areas to cast their ballots and move voting machines away from Democratic strongholds. Normally this might be more difficult to accomplish, but with the unlimited financial resources available to them and with power out and roads blocked, the sky is the limit.

* Take advantage of the massive confusion to rig the machines. We already know the repugs own the companies that build them and write the code. And since the contents of the code are "proprietary" and therefore hidden to all but the insiders, I don't think I have to don a tinfoil hat to believe that there are already subroutines written and deployed in the machines (and in the servers they feed the information into) that can be "turned on" at any time, and what better time than when exit polling and other monitoring will be sketchy at best.

* Skip accumulation into the totals of votes from left-leaning districts. In the dark of night and with power and communication lines down, in all of the confusion this should not be hard to do. Especially is places where the results are expected to be close anyway, how hard would it be to skip counting a few thousand votes this way?

* Deploy truckloads of thugs in key Democratic stronghold precincts to keep the voters away. Who will be there to stand in their way or even to notice? They already do this, but now with other distractions keeping away anyone who might stand in their way, it could be infinitely easier and these thugs could rule the streets.

Anyone with half a brain could easily double this list and I have no doubt that the best right-wing minds available are at the table right now planning the work and working the plan. If the election is allowed to take place under the circumstances that are currently predicted to exist in a week, there are few surprises that are beyond the realm of possibility.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
