(I picked the wrong day, I'm afraid, to plan to roll out my 24-hour fundraiser at noon -- but now I guess I'm stuck with it!)
Below the gnocchi (subject to a few final revisions with my printer, including of course adding their union bug) is my State Senate campaign sign for this year. Given a limited budget, I haven't put them up until now because I've seen how quickly my friend Congressional candidate Jay Chen's signs have been stolen by the neighborhood thugs. So I decided to go with the "San Diego fireworks display" approach: all at once, just before Election Day, when I hope that their novelty will attract extra attention.
I'm going to buy as many of these as I can afford, probably tomorrow afternoon, for posting on Friday. If you like the idea of seeing as many of these as possible in my 900,000+ population district, with 460,000 voters, please contribute here. (The overall campaign website is here, if you're interested.)
Some of you have been remarkably generous and I can't and won't ask for any more from you. I'm putting off sending you my personal thanks until after the election.
I'm not promising anyone that I'm going to be able to win against my well-funded opponent -- I recognize that the odds are against me. I AM promising to put up these signs, which promote my candidacy, the Occupy movement, and two planks of my platform here in California:
Yes on Prop 30 and
No on Prop 32, to try to affect how voters think as they go to the polls. The more signs I get, the cheaper each one is; those extra numbers are what you'd be buying.
If you even have to think twice about your financial capacity to donate: then PLEASE DON'T. I don't believe in "give until it hurts"; I believe, in the case of my campaign, in "give so long at it DOESN'T hurt -- and so long as it pleases you."
Thanks for your attention! Those of you on the East Coast -- best wishes for the safety of you and yours!
