The reason why I'm writing this diary is because I'm issuing a call to action for probably one of the most important rallies the Democratic Party, Kos diarists and viewers and unions can take part of in this election season.
You may or may not be aware but Rep. Darrell Issa has sponsored H.R. 2309, the Issa-Ross Postal Reform Act, which is written apparently to address the problems the U.S. Postal Service is facing today. A number of key points are highlighted per the House Committee on Oversight & Government Reform's "Saving the Postal Service" website:
http://postal.oversight.house.gov/
• Mandate USPS cut costs in line with declining revenue, and give USPS the freedom to do it
• Direct USPS through a comprehensive, nonpolitical realignment of its costly excess infrastructure, making sure it’s fair to small and rural post offices
• Eliminate costly regulations and end Congressional micromanaging
• Ensure taxpayers won't be left holding the bill if USPS leadership fails
• Help USPS cut costs and structure payments, while not letting USPS default on any of its obligations
Now I haven't read the bill in its entirety but from what I understand, it goes a little too far and doesn't really reform the US Postal Service. Instead, in my view, it makes the situation worse.
Just earlier, I received an e-mail from the campaign of Jerry Tetalman, the Democratic challenger running against Darrell Issa in California's 49th Congressional District. There is going to be a major rally happening October 31st, 2012 (this Wednesday) where over a hundred U.S. Postal Workers, Jerry Tetalman and his campaign volunteers will be protesting at Darrell Issa's office in Vista, CA. Details of the event are as follows:
Join Us For The Big Postal Workers Protest at Issa's Office on Wednesday!
That's right.
Here's your chance to take your outrage over Issa's policies directly to his front door!
Jerry Tetalman will join HUNDREDS of postal workers from Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego Counties, who will converge on Vista, Wednesday at noon.
Join us to make it a spooky Halloween for Congressman Issa!
Wednesday, Oct. 31st
12:00 pm
Issa Office: 1800 Thibodo Road, Vista, CA 92081
Hope to see you there!

I also just got this e-mail from Tetalman's campaign manager, Charles Dodson:
I based the number on a projection based on the number from the last protest we attended there, around 200. That event was just SD CO nurses union folks: This is union postal workers from 3 big counties!
Here's one e-mail we got today from one local ...
Issa is campaigning in his district and should be there. We are leaving on a bus from the SWCAL office at 1251 N Tustin Ave, Anaheim, CA 92807 at 10 am. We will return to our union office at 4:30 p.m. We will bring enough lunches, refreshments, signs, banners, bullhorn, chant sheets, informational flyers and other materials for over 100 participants to protest postal privatization. California State President Mike Evans and the State Legislative Director will be on the bus. We expect many APWU National officers to attend. We will have a number of local presidents Anaheim APWU Pres Rich Cantu, (Retiree pres) Bobby Donnelson, (Retiree VP) Frank Townsend, VP Dave Dodero, City of Industry Pres Terry Stoller, San Diego APWU Pres Tom Wood, LA APWU Pres Roy Dumas, LA NALC Pres Larry Brown LA NPMHU Pres Eddie Cowen and various craft officers including myself in attendance. Some media will travel with us and we have contacted other media to be on site. LA and SD will will van pool there. (see attached press release
I was thinking this could be a perfect story for MSNBC to cover, particularly Ed Schlutz seeing as his coverage on worker rights, unions, etc. is outstanding.
So far, I haven't been able to find the contact information of Ed Schultz or his staff on MSNBC but I have been able to find the contact information on the website for Ed Schultz's radio program:
