“Either Chip Cravaack is lying to Minnesota voters, or he lied to his mortgage lender,” said Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party Chair Ken Martin. “Chip Cravaack won in 2010 in large part because of his attacks on Jim Oberstar’s residency but now that he faces those same questions, he’s attempting to distract voters and distort the truth. It’s time for Chip Cravaack to be honest with voters. If voters can’t trust Chip Cravaack to be honest about where he lives, how can they trust him to represent them in Congress?”
This statement was made after details were released that MN-08 Representative Chip Cravaack used a second-home rider on the mortgage on his North Branch home, which has been his claim to residency or any real connection to his district and Minnesota.
The IRS rules are clear:
Main home. You can have only one main home at any one time. This is the home where you ordinarily live most of the time.
Second home. A second home is a home that you choose to treat as your second home.
The mortgage is also clear - Chip may be in default for misrepresenting his situation to Wells Fargo, if he's been straight with voters:
Where is Chip Cravaack's home? It's not here.
It's time to elect a progressive democrat from Minnesota, living in Minnesota to represent the state's wildest most progressive district, MN-08.
It's time to elect Rick Nolan. Vote, donate and volunteer now, and help Chip Cravaack figure out where he lives and what he's about on his own time, after the election.
