Here is the number: 703-278-2343
There is not a lot of detail on the number to be found on the fearless internets, for example whether it is a call from the actual Romney campaign or from Americans for Prosperity on behalf of the Romney campaign (a key distinction, considering the content of the recorded message, which I will discuss briefly below).
Anyway, I get these calls; somehow I've gotten on the telemarketer list for campaign solicitations for the Romney campaign (I also get emails from Herman Cain...weird, right? It's king of amusing and allows me to compare the Obama and Romney GOTV efforts -- note to Romney campaign: you are not doing as well as the Obama campaign, and the humans who answer the phone eventually are not always 100% behind the candidate they purportedly espouse).
So here is the actual wording of the recorded message as I received it:
"Hurrican Sandy has distracted the nation from the final days of the campaign..."
and then of course instructions to press 1 to contribute to the Romney campaign (they are trying to raise an additional 50 million dollars...why doesn't Romney just write a personal check, I wonder?). I almost always press one, just to waste their time (and sometimes tell them how the Affordable Care Act actually works), this time it didn't connect properly, so instead of telling the poor telemarketer on the line the following, I'm writing a DKos diary to convey the same message:
WHAT THE HELL!???!!!
Hurricane Sandy..."distracting"...from the campaign??!!!
Isn't a "distraction" generally the unimportant thing that takes attention from the actual important thing?
Crap. I was actually, literally, without words.
And then I heard Romney on the radio saying, and again, I quote:
“We come together in times like this and we want to make sure that they have a speedy and quick recovery from their financial and in many cases, personal loss,” said Romney
Romney, being Romney, of course gave "financial" losses primacy over "personal" loss.
What a poor excuse for a human being. What a poor excuse for a politician.
We are going to win this election, people. Romney is too deeply flawed to win.
I bet you a lot of money Jeb Bush is seriously irked at the moment. And I bet Huntsman spends a lot of time mumbling to himself in the mirror.
As an aside, I have been in a situation that has resulted in FEMA being called in (a fire that destroyed a number of homes, mine among them). I was, retrospectively, not in danger, got out in plenty of time. I lost almost all of my possessions. But you know what? I did not and do not give a damn about the financial repercussions of that event. I got the baby out, and the things I regret losing were the things with personal resonance (quilt made by grandmother, etc.) And also, FEMA was terrific in that situation (under Clinton, of course).
For Romney to even mention financial losses in the same breath as personal losses really makes me wonder about what exactly he is. Not much of a human being, is my thought.
