About 10 days ago, I published a diary where I questioned some of the GOP advertisements which included women presenting the campaign message. The first of these was by an unidentified 30 something brunette woman whom the GOP wanted to appear as being the typical suburban female with a family. I questioned whether this woman was just an actress reading a script or a real person and also questioned whether she and her family, if she has one, were really no better off than they were four years ago at the start of 2009. Now the folks at Karl Rove's SuperPac are running a rewritten different version of the original ad. In the newer version, this woman makes no direct mention of whether she and her family are better off or not. I would have to assume, given the lack of mention, that she and her family are indeed better off than they were four years ago. The economy was taking a nosedive like a rocket headed towards terra firma, if you do not remember. She should be thanking President Obama rather making an ad for his opposition. Also the ad makes it clearer that the words are not her own and that AmeicanCrossroads (Karl Rove) takes credit for the words. Still busy individuals may be confused about where the political message is actually coming from when ads are made to look like they come from just an average citizen rather an actor. Marketers have been known to try various forms of subtle manipulation including even subliminal messaging.
I have taken the liberty to rewrite her script to reflect want she might hypothetically really want to say. Thus, the following:
Mr. President, I want to thank you for helping to save the economy. Like many individuals, I was very worried that the economy was going to completely crash at the end of 2008. Mr. Rove’s former boss President George W. Bush really screwed up the economy. I was terrified that we might lose the house and that my family would end up living in a shelter. Mitt Romney has promised to employ my kids when they grow up if they are willing to move and work in a Chinese sweatshop. I am grateful but have come to doubt most of what Romney says. This acting gig is almost over and Rove’s check has cleared so I will let out a secret – I will be voting for President Obama.
The second ad that I mentioned dealt with the campaign of Aaron Bean in Northeast Florida for a Senate seat in the Florida Senate. I mentioned that he ran against another Republican in the primary campaign which contained a rather annoying ad where an elderly woman constantly screeched a comment about Bean’s opponent. A more informative article about Mr. Bean and other Florida GOP politicians appeared in one of the local papers since then. Here is weblink: http://www.folioweekly.com/.... The thing that makes this worth sharing with a more national audience is that the article details how the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) --- the Koch Brothers--works in the State of Florida. I wish the graphics enhibit page was available because it provides a brief way to view the substance of the article. Nevertheless in my opinion, the article details how the GOP is planning to syphon off public taxpayer provided funds by cornering the Florida prison system for their big business cronies. By supporting certain GOP candidates they hope to turn the public prison system into a private one where their wealthy cronies can become even wealthier. It must project into a pretty good return on investment to attract this bunch of predators. Probably not much doubt, the plan is to have a certain amount of excess profits flow back to future GOP candidates. Anyway, read the article for yourselves and determine whether you believe candidate Bean and another candidate Senator Thrasher are neck deep in ‘GRAFT’.
The Democrats have excellent women candidates for these offices but the local newspaper has decided to endorse Bean and Thrasher instead. http://jacksonville.com/.... http://jacksonville.com/.... The lady Democrat candidates have records of accomplishment and they are honest. I think it is a good thing that they are not experienced in the ways of the Florida legislature. They would be a breath of fresh air. You may also remember that United States Congressman Stearns was upset in the primary. Ted Yoho, the winner in that primary, is also running against a woman in the general election. She is a Navy veteran and a business woman. All and all, the Democrats have excellent candidates running in this part of Florida. They are real people and not unidentified actors. By the way Yoho is still running his ‘Pigs at the Trough’ ad. http://www.youtube.com/.... Other than Cliff Stearns, I have no idea what he may think of other Florida GOP candidates. Yoho also has an ad where he is endorsed by a George W. Bush impersonator. http://www.youtube.com/.... I thought tea-party candidates like Yoho blamed Bush for abandoning true conservative principles- therefore the ad does not make sense to me.
The third ad that I mentioned was an ad by the mother of United States Senate candidate Connie Mack. I have not seen that one lately. Maybe the ad is not working as well for Connie Mack as the ad by Rick Scott’s mother worked for Scott. From all of this, I believe it is fair to conclude that Democrats and Republicans see the role for women in society differently. Democrats see the role for women as being active real person participants and Republicans see the role for women as being one where they are mostly scripted actors or props.
