So, since I can't leave my desk until the last voter clears out of my office, and I forgot my lunch (I remembered Itzl's), I had to order delivery.
For part one, please go here, here for Part 2, and here for Part 3.
I felt kind of weird, sitting at my desk eating lunch in front of all these people. But I was hungry. I've been here since 5:30 this morning and won't get to go home until at least 7:30 this evening.
I ordered from Jimmy John's, and not only did they get here fast, they made it through the line of voters without a scuffle or skirmish and they brought me a lovely extra loaf of bread so I could make a peanut butter sandwich with it for dinner, saving me a second delivery meal charge! I gave them a large tip.
Itzl has no qualms eating his meal in front of people.
Since the last update, we had a few interesting events.
Our CFO thinks it will save money if we set the lights on the cleaning timer, so they go off every 3 hours. The only person who can turn them back on is Security. Where was Security when the lights went off? Who knows. I called their emergency phone number.
Three times.
With no answer.
So I tracked down one of the building maintenance people and asked if they'd use their privileges to get into the Security office to turn the lights back on.
Then, we got our first drunk of the day in. I gave him a paper sack to hide his bottle - we have children around, for crying out loud! When he tried to go through an off-limits door, Security was still least-in-sight. I had to guide him away from the off-limits door and escort him outside, only to have him berate me for denying him the vote. I explained to him that he'd already voted and turned in his vote and could not vote a second time.
Security still not around.
I called the police to have them come escort the man off the grounds and get him to a safe place - I was afraid he'd wander out into the street and the drivers were not paying a lot of attention as they zoomed into our parking lot.
Still no Security, so I had to fill out the incident report. Since I handled it as a trespass issue (he'd already voted before he tried to get into off-limit places and refused to leave the property when asked), the poll workers weren't involved other than to confirm that he'd already voted.
Here's Itzl, a bit concerned about the drunken voter:
I wonder how many more times I'll end up calling for back-up from the city's finest because our own security isn't available?
Except for the early drunk, voting is actually going fairly well; almost as nicely as it was for Clinton's last term - and way better, so far, than last year.
Itzl wants to know when this will all be over:
I haven't the heart to tell him it will go on for another 7 hours.
