My mind began months ago pondering the big picture of this election. What does this really mean to this nation? Is there something bigger than any individual issue or candidate or party on the ballot? Yes.

The gnashing of teeth has began amidst bourbon swilling. There will be carnage, cohesion, capital, and controversy. The feeling of watching the carnage from the hill is akin to a lottery win. Election result carvings have started. I propose that we slice this election only one way.
The country just four years prior took a giant leap forward. A winning candidate for the Presidency no longer had to fit the white, male mold.
Consider for a moment the first President of color lost reelection.
For an entire generation, the psychological subtext to Presidential politics would become, "We tried something different once, but look how that turned out." The loss would have become a loss for future black Presidential candidates, and also (potentially) for females, Latinos, Asians, gays, et cetera.
For this experiment to work over centuries, the psyche of the populus cannot dismiss those not like themselves on an individual basis. America healed a little tonight as its minorities become majorities.
Every American knowing that he or she could be considered as a Presidential candidate is deeply empowering.
Maggie Thatcher in one of her famous Prime Minister's Questions vile diatribes once said, "America was founded on an idea." That idea won.
