If you are like me, you may have friends or family of friends who struggling to recover from Sandy, but are fairly removed from being able to provide help aside from Red Cross donations. This morning I spoke to a friend whose brothers and sisters in her hometown are scattered all around the area, whole families doubling up with friends and coworkers, with kids who won't go back to school sometime next week, in some temporary location, maybe. The stress is crushing.
Just now on Here and Now, I heard a story about two OWS activists who have launched Occupy Sandy and are providing on-the-ground supplies via an Occupy Sandy Wedding Registry on Amazon. This works exactly like online wedding registries you are familiar with; but instead of china and color-coordinated towels, the items listed as "needed" are batteries, diapers, hammers, and even patio heaters which could be invaluable as the temperature goes down. It looks like Amazon has discounted many of the items, and there are lots of price ranges to choose from. The OWS volunteers are providing the logistics for getting the items to the right places on the ground.
Looks like a great way to support devastated families in the area and also show some love to OWS for their continued ingenuity. If you have a minute to check it out and donate, please do, and pass the word.
