I have known this gentleman from our days in the Navy.  I respect his service and generally ignore the email diatribes about Obama and Democrats but every now and then, I feel the need to push back.

To his credit, he keeps pushing on and we maintain a level of respect.  I look forward to meeting with him should we be in each other's home geography (he lives in northern CA, me in So Cal).

So  here's the latest episode and my reply.  I did kind of stick a needle in him in my opening salutation ;-).

The email arrived with the body in 16pt bold font.  I had to reformat in my reply to make any sense of it.

My responses are in bold.

Lighten up.  You have two more years to obstruct legislation and work to flip the Senate.  Good luck.

Things could be worse.  Oh – they are – the State legislature has a Democratic super majority.

WELL, it is official and final. It would appear that the majority of the American people have made their decision and decided Marxism and socialism over the Constitution, her Amendments, the very heritage and ideals of our founding Fathers and the principles that brought this Nation its pinnacle before it's demise on November 6th, 2012. To borrow a phrase from WWII, a day that will live in infamy. These so called Americans have along with the head Marxist/socialist in charge, have buried our Constitution, Amendments, and in doing so, in their ignorance, have begun on a larger scale, have given up, they have chosen to give up their rights, their freedom, their individuality, individual responsibilities to themselves and moreover, these same people are coming after what you have left under this re-elected regime.  Yes.  The majority, which is democratic and constitutional, chose not only to reelect the President but selected congressional representatives which indicate they want policies that are more inclusive and respectful of all ethnicities, genders and economic classes and a more just and equal economic system in which to live.

We are now officially a Nation who people feel they are entitled to your money, your retirement and your very way of life right down to taking your heritage without lifting one finger to earn it. Tell me what policies have changed or will change overnight.  The three branches of power are pretty much the same as before the election.  Let's see what actually happens over the next two years before panicking.

I am a baby boomer born 1948, I observed John F. Kennedy and the Soviet Unions attempts to place nuclear arms in Cuba, whereupon I was and had attended two one room schools where we were taught to drop and duck.

It was not long ago our Federal Government, the news media (Walter Cronkite) and most parents educating you and me everyday about evils of communism/socialism and communist domination.  Well, we all watched in my age group the removal of the missiles from Cuba, Ronald Reagan bringing down the Berlin Wall, the fall of the Soviet Empire, much to my amazement, to have it resurface right here in my front yard.

Now some people are going to say these are nothing more than ramblings from a Senior Citizen.  Is this Senior Citizen tired, yes, burnt out, oh yes, but there is no disputing, these are in truth the facts as our generation grew up with and there is no burring these facts under any carpet.

I served my Country for ten years, making a career out of the United States Navy.  Having served in-country Viet Nam, returning to the Fleet was mundane, no challenge, so I chose another avenue and private life. I guess to make my point, it would appear I am dancing around the fire pit so to speak. I took an oath when I went into the service of my Country, and in my opinion that oath has no expiration date, and that oath states: "To defend this Country from foreign and domestic threats,"  well people, that threat has arrived in this election of November 6th 2012.  Where do you stand on global warming, the consequences of extreme weather and the damage that has wrecked the East Coast?  I think that is far more an existential threat to lives and property than an imagined threat from a President who has been as effective as could be expected given the bag of shit that was lift at his doorstep by his predecessor.

Having gotten out of the service as so many millions of other service members from WWI through my generation of Viet Nam, lived and still live by that oath, again, it has no expiration date on it.

Believe me when I say, I will defend and give my life for my Country on that oath, the principles and values of our Founding Fathers, the Constitution and her Amendments, but never think, for one moment, I will for Marxism and socialism that this new wave of Americans or this Marxist/socialist re-elected administration who feel is what this Country is all about.  It's only a new wave to those who haven't been paying attention to the population growth of Latinos and other citizens of non-white ethnicities and the growing proportion of young people of all ethnicities.  It's simple demographic change which can't be turned back, just getting adjusted to.

Under this re-elected administrations Marxist/socialist policies, think they have found a new home, not in my Country they haven't.

God Bless the United States, those who believe in Freedom, the Constitution, her Amendments and Principles of our Founding Fathers.
And fuck the rest of us who don’t share your views – very American!

I firmly believe that the time is at hand, to lock and load, time to defend your home, time to defend your freedom and time to defend your very way of life from tyranny.  Welcome to the Socialist States Of America.  Live in Scandinavia for any length of time and then tell me that the US is socialist.  The US has become a corporatist state.  Our personal taxes are high because the extremely wealthy and multi-national corporations have exploited an unfair tax code for decades.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

And they are good friends. They would give me the shirt off their backs. Unfortunately, they see conspiracies under every rock.

Last night kicked off the nuttiness. Same complaining about the Dow tanking, all the companies lay offs caused by Obama & how the GOP should obstruct all Obama legislation. They then ended by telling all Obama supporters to enjoy our 'free stuff'. Finally decided enough is enough and unfriended them.

Watching Colbert in his bathrobe the other night is the same way these people are acting.

I get much the same type of things from much the same type of people who are in other contexts friends and acquaintances. Now and then just like you, I get fed up and respond to them much as you did.

Inevitably they respond back that I am a close-minded robot  from San Francisco blindly parroting liberal talking points and think I am superior to everyone else.

Eventually I gave up even bothering to respond to them and decided instead to increase my contributions to the Obama re-election campaign.

AH, you absolutely amaze me, what is it you don't understand about a government going in and taking over the auto, health care, banks and insurance companies?  It is socialism, it is illegal under the Constitution and yet, people like you and millions of others think that is alright. I think not.
Not illegal and not unconstitutional – quote me the passage/amendment that states that it is illegal for federal government to act ‘for the common good’.

Banks and insurance companies and GM are quite pleased with the government support they received in 2008.  I am not WRT the banks and if it is illegal, I would like the government to put people in jail.

with a neighbor I barely know, but through text messages. Communism, anti constitution, the works.  It was much shorter than this, but the essence was the same.

I was peacefully minding my own business, walking my dog when she sent me the first email and it was so obnoxious. Then she said that I "sadly fell for their lies" Sadly.  Totally rude.  But I was able to manipulate and shame her enough about how to be a good "friend", I could say the same about HER, but I would never ever do that. We're not friends, but I'm not above doing stuff like that, until she asked that I "enlighten her" to which I said "anytime, anywhere, my treat".  Haven't heard back yet. Bet I never will, but I will run into her one of these days on the street.

Socialism:  a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.

Marxism:  the system of economic and political thought developed by Karl Marx, along with Friedrich Engels, especially the doctrine that the state throughout history has been a device for the exploitation of the masses by a dominant class, that class struggle has been the main agency of historical change, and that the capitalist system, containing from the first the seeds of its own decay, will inevitably, after the period of the dictatorship of the proletariat, be superseded by a socialist order and a classless society.

Fascism:  a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism.

Communism:  a theory or system of social organization based on the holding of all property in common, actual ownership being ascribed to the community as a whole or to the state.
