Thanks to a nudge from one eager member, I’ve finally created a group, Motor City Kossacks, and sent out invitations to join it. You, too, are invited to take part if you are a Kossack in SE Michigan, rather generously defined (west to Lansing, north to Flint, east to Port Huron, down to include Detroit and then south to the OH border—hope that helps). Please Kosmail me if you haven’t heard from me yet and I’ll send you an invitation immediately.
I’m trying to convene those who are available for a meet-up this coming Saturday, Nov. 17, for a 6:00 PM dinner. I’ve arbitrarily chosen the date, because it’s the last weekend evening I have free myself until late December (which for that matter might also be an excellent time for a gathering—that is, the last weekend of December, or the first one in January). Given the geographic spread of the Motor City Kossacks, so far the most central location appears to be Novi. If anyone has recommendations for a restaurant in or close to Novi that could accommodate a group of 15-20, please do share. So far I’m estimating a group of about 12, though that is not firm.
Yes, spouses and partners and significant others are welcome; yes, children are too if we wind up in a kid-friendly space. But I think it’s best if it’s a Kossack-only group, other than our auxiliary members in these categories.
We have lots to discuss as local activists with a national bent, and I very much look forward to meeting as many of you as possible next Saturday. If you can’t make this meet-up but still want to be part of the group, of course we want to include you, too. With luck, we’ll get through the winter with a couple of good gatherings, and then we’ll be able to look forward to other events in the good weather.
I have become accustomed to observing some pretty cautious protocols about naming people, even using their DKos handles, as being associated with any given activity here on the site without explicit consent, so it might take me a while to relax into the new conventions associated with the local meet-up groups. Please do feel free to comment on your relationship to this new group in the comment thread, and to make suggestions about a good place to eat (not too expensive & veggie-friendly are my major criteria).
Whoo-hoo! This is going to be fun! :)
