Thank you to all of our veterans and active duty military. You are the reason we are able to vote, disagree, cuss and discuss. You have fought and are fighting for our freedoms whether or not we at home agree with the war(s) in which you were or are engaged. For many reasons you were sent into harm's way, some righteous, some not, but you did or are doing your duty.
Most of you have not been involved in a scandal (see Petraeus, David) and have done what your country asked of you. For many a military career has been a stepping stone out of poverty. On the other hand some have families at home enduring abysmal conditions because of low pay and a tough economy. Yet you do your jobs.
Please know there are many folks who respect, appreciate and salute you. You have guts and tenacious spirits. My 91 year old Mom, Navy Nurse WWII, is still independent even after the death of my Dad, Merchant Marines, WWII. She is a living testimony to grit and determination.
I watch my husband Persiflage tear up every time we sing or hear our National Anthem. Vietnam vet, in love with his country.
Thank you most special people.
I've not served our country in the capacity you have done. I don't know what it is or was like. I do know I thank you. Each and every one of you.
