The repercussions of Tuesday's victories just keep on coming! Now we have the opportunity to lose some of the most medieval states in the union. Petitions from Louisiana, Texas, and 13 other states placed at the White House petitions website have drawn thousands of signatures.
We need to sign these petitions! This is a great opportunity for the country!
The story is bouncing around; I've had difficulty tracing the original source. Here's one version:
which appears to be based on this:
Here's the petition for Texas:
where they have already gotten more than half the signatures they need. If we add our signatures, we can help push them over the top!
Here's the Louisiana petition:
There are also petitions from other states, but not many of them look realistic; for example, my state of Oregon doesn't belong in the same nut basket with Texas and Louisiana, but some nitwit filed a petition. Perhaps we should file counter-petitions opposing those?
It has long been noted that one of the strengths of the American federal system is the freedom with which individual states can engage in political experimentation. This, I think, would be an ideal experiment: let the core red states secede, form their own nation, and implement all their ideas: machine-gun posts on their borders to stop immigrants; death penalties for women who have abortions (we're pro-life, you see); wading knee-deep in glorious pollution (we'll show them greens!); a genuine, red-blooded, no-holds barred plutocracy; reducing prison overpopulation by expansion of the death penalty; a 'citizen investigator' assigned to every non-Christian to keep tabs on them; forced castration of gays and forced sexual therapy for lesbians (gang rape) and the Internet would be subjected to even stiffer controls than China employs. Sarah Palin would head the Sexual Correctness Department, Rush Limbaugh would lead the Official News Service (the only one permitted), Dick Cheney would lead the Department of Offense (we don't need no stinkin' Defense), Paul Ryan would of course lead the Department of the Treasury, John Bolton would be Secretary of State, and Clarence Thomas would be the entire Supreme Court. They'd use the same Constitution, with some adjustments to the Bill of Rights.
This could be a grand opportunity! Let's jump on it!
